So I had been working with a local jeweler who ordered me a custom gabriel and co setting to set my diamond in. They let me know the project would be ready by Thursday (the rush date I had requested), but when I went in they told me that there was a delay and weren't able to get it. Instead, they set my diamond in a stock Gabriel and Co setting and built a head to fit my diamond. They told me I could use this to propose since I had already made my plans and then I would bring the setting back next Thursday and they would set it in the custom setting same day. This would honestly be amazing except for the size of the ring is wrong. My girlfriend is a size 4 3/4 and the ring is a 6.5! I already purchased things I will use for the proposal and the proposal date can no longer be changed so I am stuck with a ring that is too big. Fortunately, my gf had a very difficult time getting the 4 3/4 off her hand because her knuckle is larger than where the ring rests but how big of an issue will this be? Will the ring basically just slide off her finger? Is there anything I can do to make the ring fit tighter? Any help would be greatly appreciated because I am having a mini freak out lol

A 6.5 may just slide off her finger - but at any rate this ring isn't really for wearing so much as just proposing with. But if you can find any of these (may be at a store like Claire's), or make one by getting a bit of plastic tubing and cutting a slit down one side, that would help: http://www.amazon.com/Ring-Snuggies-Original-Adjusters-Assorted/dp/B0014DGXU8/

(Also, in my experience, setting your stone in another ring for just a week is really going above and beyond. Most jewelers wouldn't do that, just so you know.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm actually really grateful for all the effort they've put in. The date I gave them was basically an impossibility. They told me they'd get it done and unfortunately it just didn't fully work out, but in no way am I pissed at them since they've gone above and beyond to make this date work for me (and for a pretty minimal profit since I didn't even buy the diamond from them). Lol I haven't even let them know about the freak out, but I'm just very concerned that it will lose some of the romanticism if my girlfriend is wearing something for 2 days and terrified of it flying off her finger the whole time. Hopefully I can find one of those snuggie things to ease her mind. Any other recommendations to help with security for a few days? The jeweler proposed scotch tape but I'm a bit confused by what he meant or how I would go about that.

Those things distracts mentioned are the way to go - there's probably a Claire's at a major mall near you. (If that doesn't work, I think these things are small pieces, say 3/8 inch, of aquarium or medical tubing that's split lengthwise). When I was a kid I remember wrapping string or dental floss around the underside of a ring to make it fit, but that's even less elegant than the plastic tubing. ;) What the jeweler proposed is probably along the same lines - use a length of thin (width-wise) tape of some sort (masking tape, electrical tape, even duct tape) and wrap it around the bottom of the shank.
