My Mahenge Spinel glows bright pink and my and AGL unheated violetish blue Sapphire has softer fluorescence. I took a photo of them on my Yooperlite rock that has speckled orange fluorescence just for fun :). Here they are in dim overhead lighting and with a UV flashlight.

I have some- I can play!
It will be later tho. Have to dig for the pics.
Just bought a blue sapphire that's a bit color zoned, and the fluorescence is zoned as well.

What pretty settings! It is fun to see the scattered diamond fluorescence. Like little secrets our gems hold. The Mahenge really shows out more than the violet does under UV, but what a pretty color that violet is!

I’m amazed by your Yooperlite! I had never heard of this before. Where did you get it? What a nice display rock! I love the pink vein going through it.

You’re Wildfish ruby is a dream! I love the shape of it. Interesting how the UV plays with the depth—simply gorgeous!

Looking forward to seeing your pics, @Rfisher ! I never thought about zoned fluorescence...we will all be looking for that now! :D

Thanks for playing, Everybody!! :appl:

@MissyBeaucoup I bought the Yooperlite at a local Rock & Mineral show. The guy that discovered them on the shores of Lake Superior had a booth set up and was selling them. He is a “Yooper” (from the U.P. of Michigan) and thought the name was catchy, lol. You can find the rocks for sale on Etsy and eBay. I love fluorescence!

@2Neezers That is definitely a catchy name! I think I found his website. He does tours too. Very cool!

Thanks for sharing something to look out for at rock & mineral shows too!

The color zoned sapphire I have was fun to see, took me by surprise.
I took no photos though, and it's already off back to the vendor getting set.

These pics are hard to take. The light messes with my eyes after about 60 seconds.
The UV light is not good for your eyes. Please wear sunglasses (blocks UV)! The pictures are difficult to take, though.

I need to try to get a picture but my tsavorite band also fluoresces s pink/orange color. I do wonder how common that is in the garnet family.

Kuranze mine produces Tsavorite with a higher Chromium content than other sources and they show fluorescence. And often a very good color course low iron content. 0D6165CD-EDC3-40DD-9038-4F188D60F4C7.jpeg 5A230FB1-59B2-40D3-8733-7E4F3BE7CD3A.jpeg

How interesting! Such a pretty daylight color too. I don’t have a tsavorite and would love to see some comparisons from different locations, if anyone else wants to play! Let us see yours too, please, @Arcadian.

There are two three stone rings, and two bypass, some with non fluorescent stones. I took these photos is a lighted room, but the fluorescence still showed up. One is a mint garnet flanked by two Mahenge trillions, with much fainter orange fluorescence, but it’s hard to see with the red fluorescent spinels surrounding it.

I had no idea these two spinels even had fluorescence. The cushion is a dusty rose pink, that has some lavender in the sun, and the oval is a light pink that also gets more lavender in the sun. The fluorescence is much weaker than the Mahenges.

I got the new light and it doesn't work (:roll2:) I hate amazon.... And I still have not located the other lamp. I even looked where the other lights were and nope, not there either.

Its a longshot but I'm going to try home depot today or tomorrow.

A fluorescent ruby.
This fell out of a ring I inherited, so I don't know if its origin or whether it could be synthetic.

I love fluorescent gemstones! Although the first time I saw a diamond glow under UV light, I was having a gel manicure done and I FREAKED OUT! I thought it must be fake, but then I learned that it's a totally natural thing and now I'm obsessed. I'm even considering having a ring done with all fluorescent diamonds.

I don't have a fancy uv setup. Just my uv nail light and my phone camera. Can someone tell me if my ruby is real? Here it is under my nail light. Just a note that the dots you see on top of the stone are just reflections of the lines of led uv lights under the top of my nail light. I've tried to scratch it with a metal file. No scratches. It measures 2cm tall X 1.5cm wide X .8cm deep. The inside band says 10k. Please help! 20190707_185155.jpg 20190707_184400(1).jpg 20190707_184408(7).jpg 20190707_185039.jpg

Probably synthetic , but there's no way to tell for sure based on the pics

Quite odd. Sapphires, as far as I know, do not fluoresce.
???????

ETA I stand corrected.

You made me nervous for minute :lol-2:. I think the violet/purple sapphires might be fluorescent more often, at least from what I could tell from a few older threads I found..
Maybe mine is fluorescent because it’s violetish blue? The stone came from Gran Gem with this AGL report.

Purple sapphires fluoresce, so violet sapphires can fluoresce, too, as the purple/violet is formed by a mix of red/chromium and blue/iron impurities in the crystal lattice. The iron can cover the chromium, but there must be cases where the chromium is "stronger" than the iron and isn't completely masked by the iron.

I have my black light and guess what? I now can't find the ring. Oh my GAWD!!:x2:x2:x2:x2:x2 I wore it in DC and wore it back, and I can't remember where it is. will keep looking.

Anyway the ring was one I purchased from overstock. similar to this and of course much cheaper at the time. Nice to see at least they still have a similar looking ring.

Also I had the misfortune of taking that black light in the bathroom.... Honestly, NEVER take a black light in a bathroom that you share with a male. Just don't.
