My diamond ring came back from the recut. All staff at Brian Gavin Diamonds were the best!

Here are some before and after pics. In the one pic I am wearing two diamond rings. Just ignore the smaller one; it's the bigger one that got recut.

My new diamond is now an AGS Ideal cut!

Wow, I think that's the most drastic BGD recut we've seen yet!

Looking forward to those before and after stills of the diamond itself :sun:

That is incredible! Would love to see a picture of the before and after that's not the technical pictures. Unless I missed it ..what a big difference and you lost so little in diameter it's amazing! Congratulations and enjoy!

My diamond is an an I1, so you will see the inclusions in the pic, but because the cut is so beautiful, my eyes don't see the inclusions anymore! The smaller diamond you see in the pic was just used as a visual comparison (ignore the little guy). These are before and after pics in more-or-less the same setting(s).

That is stunning! They did a recut of an I1? That's interesting to me as I have stone of my grandmas that could use a recut for sure and it's I1 also. May I ask if they charge about $350 per carat like I have read before? How long did it take to complete?

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Delightful indeed!! Thanks for the additional pics!

Enjoy your beautiful new performer

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

The recut turned out fabulously! The difference is truly amazing!

Such a transformation!!! You must be thrilled.

Sandeek,

My ring has a lot of small inclusions everywhere - it looked like a busy roadmap, but Brian carefully evaluates whether a diamond is a good candidate for a recut. I thought he was going to reject it, but he accepted it for the recut. In fact, Brian actually cut out some of the inclusions! And now because the cut it perfect, the inclusions aren't noticeable because it glitters like crazy. Well worth the money! Yes, it is $350.00 a carat and it takes 1 - 2 months for the process.

This went beyond my expectations for sure. It glitters so much I think I may have to wear this ring only on the weekends, and not to work because everyone is going to notice and think I got a pay raise and get jealous! lol!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Did you have it certified by AGS after the recut? Was it certified before Brian worked his magic?

I have an old stone from my family that is a dud and I think would at least be worth having Brian take a look at. Your diamond makeover is pretty impressive!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

What an incredible difference in the before and afters!! And really - pretty minimal loss in the overall weight. ITs remarkable the vast improvement in performance --- $$ well spent, no doubt about it!!!

Congrats on such a wise diamond move!! :appl:

I am SOOOOO haply for you!!! I remember your concern that you might have buyers remorse. I can't imagine ANYONE having it with that beauty. That's the best deal I have ever ever seen! The sitting is similar but clearly more delicate.

Its stunning you better wear it every day!

What an amazing transformation! Clappy thingies all around! :appl: :appl: :appl:

Niel,

Yes, the setting is different. The setting that it was in was too clunky (is that a word?) with huge prongs that made it look strange in some respects. This setting is the Brian Gavin Classic Tiffany style knife edge. The prongs are very pretty in this new setting, and the head of the setting blends well with the shank. So glad I got their setting instead. I'm not sure what to do with the old setting. I don't think I will be setting anything in it, so maybe to celebrate I will sell the setting and buy champagne and pizza for the rebirth of my "new" diamond. :appl:

I don't know if anyone followed my story a couple months ago, but I bought this steep deep included diamond on E-bay for a real good price, and made this diamond, I think, worth much more!!!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

It looks amazing!!

Dina do you know the color and clarity based on GIA or AGS standards? I am interested how it compared to the EGL report you originally had.

Great outcome!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

incredible difference!.. :appl:

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

This is so amazing! It makes me want to have my MRB changed to an old cut by SS!! UGH!! LOL

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Dreamer D,

EGL rated the diamond only good for cut, polish, and symmetry, and gave it a SI3 for clarity. Color I

After the recut...
AGS rated it Ideal 0 for cut, Excellent 1 for polish, and Ideal 0 for symmetry, and gave it a I1 for clarity. Color J

EGL has more lax standards, and AGS very high, so I was SO THRILLED with the outcome.

The color aspect doesn't bug me. I had a feeling AGS was going to give it an I or J color, but with the cut, I can't tell the difference.

Anybody have champagne? lol! :P

WOW! amazeballs!!!!!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

A truly great transformation! It was more than worth doing! :appl:

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Wow, what a transformation! It’s wonderful that you only lost .07mm of finger coverage. I’ve been having a hard time seeing the difference in cut quality grades comparing pictures of different diamonds. Seeing the exact same diamond with two totally different cut grades is really helpful. That’s a night and day difference!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Wow. Before PS I didn't even know diamonds could be recut ... I just love all the things I learn on here. Your diamond is awesome and you ended up with a truly beautiful stone. Good work!

Thank you for your answer Dina. I truly cannot believe the difference. I may have to send my grandmas stone in for evaluation by Brian. I don't wear it because it is somewhat of a dud. I think you need to wear that beauty. Great choice you made to have done this. Thank you for posting the results. Enjoy!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Very nice result!! Congrats!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

It is beautiful! Look at those arrows in the pic!

Re: from dog to delightful. Another excellent Brian Gavin re

Unbelievable difference and such a smaller difference in diameter! The stone looks great and I love the new mounting too!

Enjoy - it's beautiful!
