Jumpin Jacks,
I bought this diamond in March on E-bay while under the influence of alcohol with a credit card by the computer (bad idea, but in this case a good one
The solitaire ring was a 2.01 carat EGL SI3, color I, only good cut, polish and symmetry, but it was the only thing I could afford and inclusions don't bug me that much if the inclusions look white; and this diamond was just that. Any diamond that looked peppered was a no way to me no matter how much. The cost was $6,000 dollars.
I was happy with the ring, but not terribly excited how "dull" and "flat" it looked. Then I discovered Pricescope and read all the success stories on Brain Gavin recuts. I sent the diamond in, had it evaluated, Brian said it was a go, and the transformation began.
The diamond turned out to be an AGS 0 ideal cut, 0 Ideal symmetry, and Excellent 1 polish. I1 clarity, and J color. Believe it or not, some of the inclusions were taken out during the recut process which was a bonus!
Now, it takes money to have it sent to AGS and back with insurance etc, etc, so that cost money too; not just the recut. Plus, I bought the beautiful knife edge tiffany style Brian Gavin solitaire setting because that setting was way prettier than the one the ring came in, and that cost more too!
So now I have an Ideal 1.72 carat diamond in an awesome solitaire setting, and the grand total of everything from start to finish was $8,000 dollars. I am going to get an appraisal soon of this ring, and I have no doubt that this ring with this new recut will be more than $8.000!

Thank you for all your fun comments Pricescopers!
I'm looking at this diamond so often it's embarrassing. My husband just said, "Are you still looking at that diamond?!" I just kinda laughed, but now I stare at it more in private. I just never realized how much beauty a diamond could have!

Dina2, did the two months include the AGS report or was the two months just how long it took to have your diamond recut? I'm interested in doing this to an old loose stone I have. Yours is so beautiful!!

UrsTex,
It took two months for everything; from the moment I sent it to Fed Ex for an evaluation from Brian, then Brian recutting it, then Brian sent it to AGS, then AGS sent it back to Brian Gavin, then Brian Gavin setting it in their solitaire setting, and then shipping it back to me as the finished masterpiece.
So you really have to hang tight and try to busy yourself with other activities because the wait was at times tough. Worth it? YES!!!!!!!
