I would imagine that it''s risky to resize an antique ring, right? (Especially with what you were told about old white gold getting brittle.) Or are you not resizing it for sentimental reasons? Again, just curious, feel free to ignore me!

I really can''t get over how great your ring looks after Quest worked on it! My grandmother gave my twin sister her engagement ring (I got her anniversary ring so it''s a bit newer) and it needs some work, but the girdle of the diamond is chipped. I''m going to recommend Quest to her for sure!

I really hadn''t thought about resizing it, since it had the gaurd on. I was prone to leaving it on, just because. Since all this happened, I wouldn''t even consider messing with it again. The guard should work fine.

IF I lost so much weight that between that and my finger shrinking from cooler weather it got dangerously loose, I''d have to consider it. I''m just hoping that doesn''t happen.

Oh Ellen, I am so happy for you. I can feel your excitement in your posts! I never realized Quest could do restorations too. They did an excellent job in modifying MrsS''s custom ring to bezel set my OEC. They also resized it from her tiny size 3 (I think) to 4.5 which no other jeweller dared to touch because it has pave. Yeah! Yeah! Yeah!

surfgirl, just heard from Pete. He said to tell you they are a full service jeweler, using state of the art machinery (I do know there was no torch used in fixing my ring, they used a laser and something else), which can design "just about any piece of jewelery out there". I know that doesn''t exactly answer your question (maybe he misunderstood mine/yours), but honestly, I wouldn''t hesitate to send it to them. HTH

I notice that my shank is starting to twist a bit and I''m concerned that the shank will indeed need to be replaced, which isn''t a big deal, unless you have an antique stone with a very thin girdle, in which case any trip to the "gem spa" can mean trouble! Thanks for sharing this gem of a jeweler! If I call him and say "Ellen from PS referred me" will he know you? Oh nevermind, I can reference your ring, he''ll remember THAT!

Honestly, my mind is SHOT. lol He couldn''t really tell about my girdle because of the setting it''s in. I figured that may be the case, as I couldn''t really tell either. It''s just hidden in there. (which is a good thing I''m sure)

Thanks Fly Girl. And yes, hard to believe he got it so perfect, so fast, without even taking the diamond out.

Good IS the key word here. I wish I could find a good one around here, instead of thousands of miles away.
