I want to bring a brooch to an event I’m going to but the pin in the back is maybe 2 inches long? Curious if anyone has experience with tsa caring/not caring about it as a carryon or worn. I can’t imagine how it’d be a “weapon” but it is pointy and metal.

I’d bring something costume before I’d bring either. The pointy pin on any brooch and the sword might be confiscated. I had some embroidery scissors taken by TSA years ago. If it has a point they don’t like it. The other is too precious to leave in your luggage, obviously precious looking, and irreplaceable. Unless you wear it around your neck, maybe.

FWIW, Google AI said it's possible that TSA might consider the pin on a large brooch to be a weapon and confiscate it. I wouldn't risk it.

Sigh. It’s just a shame. Downside of brooches I guess.

HI:

I wouldn't take a chance.

cheers--Sharon

i love your brooches so much and i love how you bring youth back to the brooch

as much as i want you to wear them i do not what anything ever to happen to them

how about finding a nice costume one, vintage or even a new antique knock off, just something pretty that we wont all cry over if something happens, just something that doesn't cost over $100
i got a really pretty blue paste one for about $20 at a church charity shop, it sparkles like crazy
about 20 years ago i used to see plenty of sparkly ones down the mall at the accessory shops so there must be plenty floating around in 2nd hand and charity stores going for a song

Yeah I don’t really wear brooches because I love the general look, more that I fall in love with a specific brooch, usually for the history. So costume ones don’t really tempt me at all haha.
No worries I have plenty of other jewelry options!
