I'm back again helping my friend find an e-ring. This will be the third e-ring I've put together! But, I am colored gem girl, not a diamond girl, so I need more help.

Finally, this friend and her boyfriend decided that they want a yellow diamond. It can be lighter yellow (UVWXYZ?) as long as it's obviously and clearly definitely yellow looking. Eye clean is fine. We're going for color here, but cut shouldn't be wonky. She likes round, cushion, and oval.

For the setting, she doesn't want a halo. An antique vibe would be nice, but not necessary. Her finger is about 6.25. Budget for whole thing $4k, but maaaaaaybe there's some flexibility there.

Right now, this:

In this:

Is in the lead.

He really likes this setting:

But I think the daintier one would be gorgeous with the oval.

What do you guys think of this oval? Cut looks good to my eyes. There might be some bowtie, but honestly she's not a PSer and honestly won't notice. I'm not sure about the florescence. I think she's the type to look and think "Pretty! sparkly! yellow!" and not obsess like most of us. He is the same way. BUT, I definitely want to get them the most for their money.

The perfect stone would be a little bit larger. I know that can be achieved if we go up into the UVWXYZ range. What do you guys think? Any suggestions?

I think your choice is lovely. I would probably get a setting that allows for a flush fit band though. And that one doesn't. So you can ask David about setting options.

This one faces up larger though: The DBL: 6.44x 4.68 versus: 6.74x5.29

http://www.leibish.com/yellow-diamond/073ct-fancy-intense-yellow-oval-si1-27657-8205 So this one faces up at almost 7x5 which is about a one carat size (ish) for an oval. As you said, she just wants yellow and big. So... this might be the better way to go.

With this setting (but for an oval, and IDJ will get you 15-20% off the listed price): http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER11750R4W44JJ

ETA: This setting would work too: http://www.gabrielny.com/engaged/style/ER11746R4W44JJ

Thanks, gypsy! This is the same guy from before. He wants to get engaged and wants to get an awesome thing, but he gets overwhelmed with this stuff and might not be up for going through two different vendors. There a couple of Liebish settings that might work, but will put him over original budget, but if he wants to pay for convenience... I'll let him know about both options, though.

I don't know how much she cares about flush fit. I know she doesn't like her sister's ring because it sits "too high." She might be okay with a curve or a gap.

Also, do you think that the heavier millegrain ring would overwhelm the oval? He likes it better.

The one with the hand engraving and milgrain?

Just have the skinnier one hand engraved by DBL and have them add milgrain, totally doable, if he wants that. the proportions will be better, and it will have the look he wants.

As for working with two vendors. Yeah, that might be an issue. But really all he has to do (or you can do this for him): just send the dimensions of the stone to IDJ so they can order the setting. And then once he's bought the stone have it sent to IDJ for setting. IDJ will send it to him one it's done.

You know this and I know this, but I think for some people, it's worth it to just go with the package deal. We'll see what he says.

:wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

CUshions face up small. I'd rather have the oval.

Gypsy, you're the best!

Anyone? Bumping because he's trying to make final decisions. :)

I had, but had been staying away from non-fancies. What do you think?

So, he's going to go with either the first oval I picked or the last oval Niel picked, depending on whether, in the end, he wants size or color. We'll see! I think he'll be in good shape either way. Thanks all!

COOL BEANS! Good job!

He went with the UV oval from Leibish. He was ok a "lemonade" yellow and wanted larger face up size. I think she'll be happy with that trade off, too.

It will be set in a Leibish setting in a yellow gold head. I just hope it's yellow enough! As long as it looks "yellow" and not just "off white" to a normal, non-PSer, it'll be just dandy. I'm just nervous as the advisor!

Also, even though he didn't go with DBL, I will say that they were totally awesome to work with and I almost wish we'd been able to go with them. Maybe next time!

I think it will be distinctly yellow. What setting?

A little overpriced IMHO, but worth it to him for simplicity, which I totally get.

oh well that will just be beautiful. white gold or plat? and let me ask you this, can you rhodium plate a two toned ring? like, do they have a way of not dipping the yellow gold just the white? if not then id want 18k yellow but 14k white ( or plat)

I'm truly not well versed in the idea of "plating" so i really don't know.

It's platinum, so no problem with the plating for this piece. I don't know, in general!

I think it will be gorgeous. I just keep getting anxiety about the color and hoping my advice was good!

ha, well , problem solved. I think it'll be plenty yellow. looking at it in the white box it looks like lemonade, and it'll have that basket for help. and you didn't pick it, just pointed him in the direction. So don't worry, I'm sure hell like it

Thanks Niel! You're an awesome ring fairy so I'll trust you! But I do think you're right. It does look gorgeous even in that box!
