Hi, lovely PSers!

I have a fabulous OEC with SBF (obviously heavily influenced by hours and hours whiled away on PS during my e-ring search) that I absolutely love. The fluorescence (and, whee, subtle phosphorescence!) are the icing on the cake, and I think I'll have a hard time falling in love with an inert stone.

My stone's SBF is all I could ask for in blue fluorescence; no cloudiness, but a strong and obvious blue tone in sunlight, and it absolutely glows off my hand in a brightly lit room with a UV LED light pointed at it.

But it turns out I can't just stop at one diamond, like so many PSers, so I'm on the search for another. I'd like to do a Tiffany Etoile-inspired semi-bezel solitaire with a <0.6ct stone. I'd like the diameter of the stone to be at least 5mm, or if it's non-round, the larger diameter to be at least 5mm.

Here's the catch: I'd like strong or very strong NON-blue fluorescence. I figure my best bet is yellow fluor, and I might incorporate some YG into the setting to enhance it. I spent some time noodling around on the PS search engine and found one stone, http://www.bluenile.com/round-diamond-1-carat-or-less-ideal-cut-i-color-si2-clarity_LD03173097?keyword_search_value=LD03173097 , which fit the bill. But since I'm not in a hurry, >$1k for a half-carat stone is a little more than I'm excited to pay... and I figure SYF in an I-color should get me a discount relative to other similar stones, don't you?

So, can you help me? I'm looking for something <$1k, >5mm in at least one dimension, doesn't have to be round. The diamond's body color and clarity are pretty unimportant, though I'm not fond of yellowish-brown body color. I'd love very strong or strong fluor, though for something crazy/rare, like red or green fluor, I'd certainly consider a stone with medium fluorescence... but I want to be able to SEE it, so faint is out. If you run across something like this, please share!

And if you have a stone with non-blue fluor, I'd love to see it! I always think wistfully of a Caleb Meyer stacking bezel ring I saw a couple years ago that had medium red fluorescence... hope it went to someone who loves fluor and, even better, uses PS and will post it here! ;)

I love fluorescence, too! But finding non-blue will be quite a search! I can't say that I have ever run across a diamond in 7 years here that had something besides blue. So I am afraid you won't get much help here looking for one, as you'd have to search for fluorescent stones and then look at the GIA report of every one to see if it designates a color other than blue. Good luck, though!!!

You can do a google search of a website and search for the fluorescence. This only works when google picks up the GIA report but it works on b2c jewels. What you do a search like the one below. Try different websites and different search terms. Hope you can use that and find other possibilities!

site:http://www.b2cjewels.com strong yellow

Doing that I found this one that has a strong yellow fluorescence.

kemurphy, that is a FABULOUS suggestion; I'd not thought of using Google in that way and had been manually checking certificates. So... does anyone want to buy a FASCINATING stone that is out of my budget and take some blacklight photos?

Strong white fluor:
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-2306407-0.50-carat-Marquise-diamond-G-color-SI1-clarity.aspx (honestly, I'm tempted by this one except, sigh, I can't get past a 1:2 ratio)

Medium green fluor (!!!):
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3653640-0.91-carat-Round-diamond-E-color-VS1-clarity.aspx
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-2463536-1.52-carat-Round-diamond-H-color-VS2-clarity.aspx
http://www.b2cjewels.com/dd-3590256-1.25-carat-Round-diamond-F-color-I1-clarity.aspx

(P.S.: I'm sure the proportions are terrible on all of them. Just, holy cow, 3 medium green fluorescence stones?! Argh, SO out of budget.)

DS2006, I know, it's a needle in a haystack, even with kemurphy's Google-fu. :) But just like I stumbled across a couple in the past, inadvertently, I was hoping that as the collected minds of PS roam the internet a couple might shake out. This is a long-term hunt, and I may just keep reviving this thread every month or two, so maybe someday someone will stumble across my next diamond and post it here! :)

recently i reached out to some fancy colored diamond dealers to see if they had any strong yellow flour. I know for colors other than blue the flour can be unflattering for whites, so I was looking for yellows to compliment the yellow....i know you said you dont like brownish yellow, but maybe a yellow is different. who knows. i would get in touch with a few of them, see if they could find you one. If you like fancy colored stones, the yellow wasnt all that hard to find

I'll have to admit, the google search makes it more feasible! I think that H SI1 stone looks promising for your project if the clouds aren't a problem!

Clarity matters a LOT with strong fluoro, because low clarity combined with fluoro can make the stone look cloudy. So you need relatively good clarity.

If we're including FCDs, I have a dozen fancy colored diamonds, with fully natural material and color origin per GIA.

The 0.33 ct Fancy Vivid Yellowish Orange Pear in the upper left corner has Strong Yellow Fluorescence.

Next to it, the 0.23 ct Fancy Vivid Green-Yellow Radiant has Strong Green Fluorescence.

GIA says the 0.27 ct Fancy Deep Purplish-Pink Emerald cut positioned vertically in the middle row has Faint Fluorescence, but GIA does not name the 'hue' of the fluorescence, which I believe is white.

The 0.16 ct Fancy Intense Orangy Pink Heart got the abbreviated GIA Colored Diamond Identification and Origin report (which does not grade or mention fluorescence) but it clearly has Strong or Very Strong Flaming-On-Fire-Frikking-Mudder-Fking-Drag-Queen-Hot-Pink-Lipstick Fluorescence.

The 0.33 ct Fancy Vivid Yellow Asscher in the back row has no fluorescence per GIA but ... is positioned between two strongly-fluorescing diamonds so it picked up some light from them and almost looks like it fluoresces brown, not so when it is alone.

Another UV shot ... a bit overexposed  :
The Asscher in the center is a GIA F with Medium Blue fluorescence.

OMG!!!! Kenny that is so cool!!!!

the fluor in the heart is my fav

omg Kenny that is so cool!!!!! The green fluorescence is radioactive...like kryptonite :Up_to_something:

Love those, Kenny!!! :appl:

sooo totally cool, Kenny. I'd love to find one of those hot pink fluorescent gems!!

It's going to be tough to find diamonds with non-blue fluorescence. If I'm not wrong there was a recent discussion on a diamond with white fluorescence. The catch is that it is slightly cloudy.

That's awesome, kenny! I love the hot pink heart

Kenny, aaaaaaaahmazing. Also... "Very Strong Flaming-On-Fire-Frikking-Mudder-Fking-Drag-Queen-Hot-Pink-Lipstick Fluorescence" is one of my lifetime purchase goals. ;) The green is also just glorious... like panda said, kryptonite!

FCDs are definitely in the running... if only I could afford one big enough to achieve the ring I'm envisioning without destroying my budget.
Many of the lab-grown stones I've seen (when I'm tempted to cheat on natural diamonds) have non-blue fluorescence, suggesting the "impurities" necessary to achieve color also impart fluorescence. But we will say no more about that, unless someone wants to jump in on how the chemicals (elements?) that naturally color FCDs also cause them to be fluorescent.

I'll have to look for that thread you mentioned about white fluor, diamondloveaffair -- missed that one!
ETA: Here it is, for others who'd missed it! Would you consider having some of the regular Vendors Of Less Common Goods do some poking around as well? DBL, GOG... they have access to way more stones than we do and could keep an eye out for you.

I'm not asking vendors just yet... I guess I envision a serendipitous diamond, where I'm the only one who gets totally excited that it's a J/SI2 with strong yellow fluor. Or, y'know, green,or pink, or white. Where there's nothing really special about the diamond except that it turns out it's an absolute one in a thousand... or tens of thousands. I almost prefer that the vendor not attach any particular significance to the stone.

So, that's why I accept that this is a long-term search and wanted to put a bug in peoples' ears (what a creepy expression) in case a PSer finds a stone that's just a little too low in color or clarity or HCA prowess for their E-ring, but happens to have this fluorescence thing which is unimportant for most people. I can be patient. :)
