Five Stone Ring

I'm considering a five stone, maybe trellis or u prong. I wear a size 6.75. I want good finger coverage.

Anyone want to give me an idea of what size to look for and also how much the suggested size might run?

I realize there are tons of variables, but eye clean, well cut, etc...

Thanks!!

I'm hoping to get a five stone in the future too, thats why I joined PS to ask that. Not right now though lucky you! There were a few threads with different sizes, some 0.2 carat, some 0.3 carat and some 0.4 carat on different finger sizes. Some people even tapered them with a 1 carat in the middle. I am sure people will chime in with what they recommend as the best size for finger coverage.

I had in my head 0.3 for my finger size, 4.25 which I might be able to just do without it getting too uncomfortable (i love the trellis setting too) so some people here did suggest 0.25. Jewellers have told me i could just fit 0.3 across with a bit of an overhang. I quite like when you can see the shape of the stone, along the row, if that makes any sense which was why I wanted larger. I think you could pull off 0.35-0.4 carat but that's just my opinion :))

Ps I know it's impossible to find five stone rings with large stones in shops to try on!!!

That's my issue. I want an eternity band or a five stone and I'm having a hard time finding anything local to try on. :/

I would love a five stone with a one carat in the center and graduated. Unfortunately that's not in the budget. LOL. My e-ring is 1.02 so I can see DH saying no to another carat stone.

I'm thinking I want .40 or .50 stones, but photos on others hands doesn't help much. I need to see it on MY hand. LOL.

Yep I totally understand where you are coming from with your 0.4 - 0.5 preference, but the uncertainty of overhang. I think if the big stones fit on your hand, I would do it as it would look amazing. 0.4 sounds good. I ended up speaking to a jeweller and asking if they thought I could hold the size. They put blue tack with diamondson a ring, so hard to tell. I understand you completely! Ive decided 0.3 (I think!). 0.5 would look amazing if your finger could fit it all on :))

I lurked on the five stone threads. I really wanted comfort first and foremost since I do not like the feeling of things between my fingers. I went with a low profile one and do not regret it at all.

I went to bed with a headache last night. I just don't know what I want and the local places don't have decent selections for me to get an idea.

I don't want to order online and hate what I've chosen.

This is stressful. Diamond shopping should be fun.

Why are you so stressed?

Just talk to a jeweller in person if you are worried and ask if your finger can fit the 5 x 0.4 and 5 x 0.5 diamonds, both will look amazing, there is no issue there. Cost will be quite different I imagine.

Diamond shopping IS fun!

I think you are so lucky to be getting one now! Share the quotes too of diamonds if you dont mind too :))

Traci from whiteflash was really helpful and said they could custom make the trellis. Brian Gavin Diamonds has a trellis already as one of their rings too on their site.

I'm still a few months out from purchase. I think I'm going to do some more local searching for size reference. Hopefully I can find a size I love.

I'm a bit hooked on the Nightingale setting from BGD. Epic!

FancyDiamonds' comparison thread is fantastic (and her rings are scrumptious ) she compares the Uprong and trellis styles and how they change how the stones fit on her finger. She put five 0.5s on a 6.25 and it looks incredible in her pics, so it definitely *can* be done if that's what you want!

40pointers in a 5.75 Uprong and 50pointers in a 6.25 trellis

My mum wears a 6.5-6.75 (the ring is a 6.75) and I used 4.85mm avg for her ring - that's about 40pointers. It looks fantastic on her - the stones cover the entire top of her finger, from middle to pinky, but there's no overhang and it's very comfortable. I think I could've have gone bigger no problem though, like FancyDiamonds' ring :halo:

Oooh is that your Mom's uprong? I've been eyeballing it on the Whiteflash website. Mind if I ask how much it cost? Feel free to not answer if you aren't comfortable sharing. I think that's exactly what I want. With 40 pointers. *swoooooon*

I wear a 6.5 but am planning to buy a 6.75 or 7 for this ring. Probably a 6.75. Don't want it too loose.

It's on the WF site? Didn't know that.

Yup that's my mum's ring - it's basically the Skye w/ separated Us for four prongs holding each stone instead of the shared prongs, and the engraving, and she wanted a thicker shank. And square holes on the undersides because for whatever reason I cared about that ::)

The stones are actually old cuts and they're very slightly graduated, from ~4.7-5.2mm, but they average out to 4.85 each - that's why I said that.

I collected the stones myself over several months (they aren't from WF). I don't mind sharing the setting cost - it was 2300, but that included
-custom design fee - had to be custom since I wanted the separated Us and b/c the stones were graduated and a bit wonky in shape (old cuts).. but obviously if you go w/ the Skye or modify it a bit instead of going fully custom you'd avoid this
-two tone (which is more) and possibly more for the non-stock palladium-wg head
-overnight FedEx of my stones *to* them (most people USPS it themselves)
-the engraving
-repeat customer discount and wire discount
-outside stone setting fees (they took off half but it was) - if you want regular RBs definitely just have them source them! I'd guess even if you bought them one at a time if you got them from WF they wouldn't charge you to set them? Definitely something to check ::)
