I wasnt really focusing on the setting right now but I do kind of have some pricing in mind based on the replica Tiffany ones e.g. that were posted by sarah at Excel diamonds. Would wnat to get it in platinum so looks like around $1350. I am planning to go to GOG this weekend to take a look at some more diamonds in person.

Hi All,

I had a chance to finally visit GOG with the gf. We took a look at a lot of diamonds to get an idea of different cuts, colors, etc. I think after the few hours we spent there, it is safe to say that she is going to be happier with a bigger size and negotiate the color clarity etc. We looked at HA, Solasfera, Star129 and Eighternity from there. The Solasfera I think was both our favorites although I did like the HA too.

That said, what is the general perception on Solasfera here? We could certainly go down to G/H and (possibly even a good I) and the clarity could be SI1/VS2, size 1.6-1.8, with ideal/excellent cuts etc. We are probably looking at something like solasfera (or anything very similar) with the above qualities and under 18k. Would welcome any ideas/feedback.

Thanks for all your help here.

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone had a chance to read this and assist with solasfera or similar type. I have read around and see that several people prefer the ACAs to the solasfera but I havent seen those in person so I was wondering what you opinions of these are:
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2176305.htm
http://www.whiteflash.com/hearts_arrows/Whiteflash-ACA-cut-diamond-2145436.htm

What others are in the range of ACAs and Solasfera - I really did like the latter but am looking for over 1.7.

Thanks.

hey helpme,

Its great that you had a chance to get down to GOG and check out the different types of diamonds. However, it seems like you are still undecided about either the solasfera or a H&A diamond. I believe the whiteflash ACA H&A should look similar to the good old gold signature H&A diamonds. I am not one for round diamonds in particular, so I could be wrong. But I do know both are different from the solasfera. If you and your girlfriend prefered the solasfera compared to the GOG sig H&A diamonds, I''d stick with the solasfera, "both your favorites".

thanks, tap. you are right - we both prefer the solasfera so far.

please can you give your (and others) opinions on this one:
http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/5727/
and this one
1.55 H VS2 7.46X7.49X4.63 M-STK,Fac 61.9 54 N M EX EX

I was hoping to find sacrifice some of the color/clarity (maybe a H/SI1) for a bigger size but they are limited. Can anyone also help me in my search for some good ones in this range. I am a little surprised as to how much the brand adds on to it. I knwo many have said its all personal preference but from the perspective of quality of the diamond, is it really worth the premium to go with something like solasfera instead of h&a or aca (even though those are different?). I guess I am trying to figure out if there are any diamonds out there that are similar to the solasfera.

thanks.

You pay a premium for solasfera as you have figured out so I think you can still get those thin splintery arrows in a Round HA or as close to it as possible. If you want to get close to that look as possible with a Round HA you would require a stone with longer Lower Girldle Facet% but you still want reasonable Crown and Main Pavillion Facet angles so this can't be taken too far . For something so specific it is going to be a matter of taste and several tradeoffs so I would get an expert involved like Jon at GOG and tell him what you are looking for, expecially since he already has the Solasfera and can do a side by side for you with an stone close to that look he might be able to call in.

Whatever you choose with another traditional cut round, the Solasfera will offer a different look due to the extra faceting, both actual facets and the virtual facet patterning ( Solasfera has 10 hearts and 10 arrows compared to 8 of the traditional h&a), so if the Solasfera particularly appeals to you then thats the one to go for.

thanks lorelei and ccl. what are your opinions on those two solasferas I posted?

I am really the wrong person to be asking as my nickname implies I am a chunky cushion lover, and I like bigger flash in general. The soon to be Ms. CCL has a different opinion so I do respect those who disagree with me.
This diamond http://www.goodoldgold.com/diamond/4833/ is bigger than the solasfera and more than 5k cheaper. Admittedly I haven't seen the Solasfera in person and if you have you are in a much better position to judge if its worth ~35% more.

The video I have seen is this http://www.vimeo.com/6656158 comparing two HAs with a solasfera. I am in the camp of not wanting extra facets until you get up into 2.5 Carat plus diamonds and even then its a matter of personal preference. The reason for this is that with smaller diamonds its more difficult to see the smaller facets except really up close which is not the normal viewing distance.

I can respect your interest in the bright splintery flash of the solasfera it has a unique and different look. Is it worth 35% more only you can decide that?

If it were me I'd be holding out for one of these http://www.vimeo.com/6656158 the new signature OEC rounds but thats probably the exact opposite of the splintery look you liked in the solasfera.
