What a relief! After weeks of research and several disappointing visits to local and chain jewelers, I went to GOG and bought a diamond for my girlfriend's engagement ring. Here are the stats...

This definitely felt like the best diamond there within my price range. The inclusions looked menacing under magnification. In fact, I would have guessed (as a layperson) that the clarity was I1. Anyway, I kept reminding myself that there are no jewelers in my family and nobody will be taking a loupe to my girlfriend's finger at cocktail parties. What made me swoon was seeing the H&A symmetry up close. How beautiful! The price was right, too. (I actually loved the AVRs even more, but they were too expensive and there was a very small selection of them in inventory.)

I think you did an excellent job within your budget! It was great that you were able to go there in person and that way you could determine your preferences and also see for yourself that the stone was eyeclean! Maybe someday you can get her an AVR for a right hand ring or pendant! What setting are you getting?

What setting are you getting?

I purchased the setting at a local jeweler before going to GOG. The setting is an 18k white gold cathedral pave. I was told that it is a DiaDori setting, although I couldn't find the exact ring on their site (not to mention they barely even have a site). When I'm able to, I will post photos.

Personally, a few white piques never bothered me. They give the diamond personality. Well done. Your purchase is a great example of what every prospective diamond buyer should do: identify the criteria that is most important to them and understand that some allowances will have to be made.
