Hi,

I'm very new to this, any and all thoughts would be highly appreciated!

I have been looking for an engagement ring, budget 10000-15000 USD for stone. Looking for a round cut 1.5 carat to go in a Platinum ring side stone.

I’m from Australia and local jewelers appear more expensive than US. I've compared AUS jeweler with Jamesallen and Bluenile.

One diamond that I have seriously looked at is https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...e-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4692944. It has the Three Excellent, Polish, cut and Symmetry, 1.5 carat, E colour, VS2. Flourescence = none.

I've found others that have strong flourescence, but I've been told that Flourescence is bad. Does anyone have opinion on this?

Like all, I'd like to get value for my money and pick the right combination of colour, cut and clarity to get a beautiful diamond.

Opinions and help much appreciated.
Cheers

Fluoro is a personal choice. personally i like it and i wish my center stone had it. SOme of my pave has it and i love seeing them glow when i get gel nails.

the stone you picked is ok... probably WAY better than most but still the angles could be better. A few options:

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...e-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-4246873

https://www.jamesallen.com/loose-di...f-color-vs2-clarity-excellent-cut-sku-3589568 I'm not sure if this is eye clean, the inclusion is in a bad spot.

Hi,
upload_2018-5-3_22-36-49.png

This diamond have a potential light leakages under the table (in red circle) this is due to a CA 35.5 PA 41 with a depth of 62.2 . If you notice in table area it's grayish, this is due to potential leakages.
Did you ask them a scope images of this diamond?

Hi and welcome!

It's what we call a classic steep/deep angle combo and it's possible the stone might show light leakage. I'd put this one on the back burner for now if you're new to looking, we can help you search.

Fluorescence, rarely is it ' bad' unless it's an unusual case of strong or very strong blue having a negative effect on the stone, such as making it look milky or hazy, but this is not the norm. If you prefer to avoid it that's fine but there's no need in my opinion ( unless it's yellow but this is even more rare).

Thanks, as I'm so new to this, Every time I learn something during this process I think of new questions. I like some of your suggestions, I'm still looking tho, trying to work out all the parameters.

I'm thinking of reducing carat size to make it better clarity. I really don't like the VS2 clarity with how many spots can be seen. What do you think of this idea? I know they can only be seen under 20x , just thinking out load.

VS2 diamonds are generally very eye clean. The reason you see them in the video here is because the are magnified 20x or more but in real life not visible to naked eye. You can even go upto SI1 provided the vendor confirms that it is an eye clean diamond.

I'm at the point now of 1+ carrat and lower my expectations and budget. I can't pay heaps of money for something that can only be scene at 20x. I'm lowering budget to $10k AUS for diamond. There is an elment of logic and reason here. Yeah it would be great to get the best but in today's housing market, life pressures, this is as far as I'll go on this one. Any suggestions for budget $10k AUS diamond 1+ carat?

Go grab a #2 pencil. The old yellow kind you used in school. That is about the size of a 1.x mm diamond. Keep that in mind when thinking about inclusions and what you can or cannot see. When I'm looking on JA, I sometimes have the diamond blown up to 8" (20 cm) on my screen.

While VS2 are generally eyeclean at 6-8", so can SI1 diamonds. To me, I worry less about the clarity rating and focus more on the location, size, and type of inclusion.

Just to be clear, are you dropping your budget to $10kAUS = $6500 USD (after 15% tax) or $10k usd??

Leaving Tax out of it. $10K AUS + 15% tax.
Looked at these two so far.

thoughts?

Both too deep and uncomplimentary angles. Stick with these angles.

table: 54-58 (but I really prefer under 57)
depth: 60-62.3 {consider 59.5 or up to 62.5)
crown angle: 34-35.0 (up to 35.5 crown angle can sometimes work with a 40.6 pav angle)
pavilion angle: 40.6-40.9 (sometimes 41.0 if the crown angle is close to 34)
Lower girdle facets between 75 – 80%

Edited to add. Then, run those four numbers through the HCA tool and reject anything greater than 2.0 (1.0 not better than 1.9, this is used to simply reject stones).

Almost 1.5 mark H colour...

1.6 CT H lovely small table... good proportions...

If you like any of these...put them on hold, Request for video, aset IS images , check with vendor if they are eye clean for the SI clarity ones...post the images here and get them vetted....

How about these? are these better on table, depth, crown angle and pavilion? From conversations, VS2 seems to be safest on eye clean scenario. is this true? I'm also looking at putting this onto a Platinum setting, french pave.

These all have potential, number 2 is my favourite and VS2 will usually be eye clean in this size but it's still best to check because eye sight varies and you might find the odd one might show a tiny inclusion.

I strongly agree the above no.2 diamond its way better.
The angles are good in this 1.05 ct but the above number 2 diamond angles are more better, more precise for right combination of brilliance and fire.

So Number 2 is best so far. I'll keep looking. got really ill from a cold, and struggling last few days. I'll be back online this weekend and hit it hard to see if I can find some more that are like number 2. Thanks so much for advice so far. The final list is coming in next couple of days!
