Finding ovals

Hi all,

I've been a lurker for years now (yep, years), but last month my boyfriend and I decided to get engaged! As a colored stone person, I wanted an Alex, but the good ones are too expensive, haha. Just to try on different styles and whatnot, we went to Tiffany's - we liked their round three stones (I'm very comfortable shopping for rounds online), but we loved the platinum Oval solitaire.

My problem - I realized when I saw two ovals side by side how much personality fancy shapes have and how important it is to be able to see it in person, or at least over video. I'm familiar with how to pick a round via ASET, etc, but ovals are new territory for me.

I know JA and GOG will provide at least videos, but should we look anywhere else? We initially budgeted $6500, so we are looking for around a 1 carat, F-G (would consider H), eye clean and no bow tie whatsoever. I'd be a lot more comfortable if I could see it in person, but after ring shopping all day, the only place with ovals was Tiffany's! Maybe we absolutely have to visit NY for GOG (we are in Texas).

We are in no rush and can wait for the perfect stone. Any suggestions on where to look would be appreciated :)

I know very little about picking Ovals, but I think you are on the right track with vendors. If you can't go in person, just make sure the vendors have good return policies (and most PS vendors do). If you can make a trip out to NY, I think that would be a very special and memorable experience for both of you (that is what I did for an upgrade)! Just make sure that you book appointments in advance, so the the vendor has diamonds within your specs and budget available for you to view when you visit. Good luck!

I know you can't see them in person but JA has great up close videos
that let you see the faceating pattern. They can also provide asets for their stones which help us look at the light return.

Your best bet online is to give us your specs and let us help you
narrow it down to the 3 you'll request asets for.

JA has a very good return policy so if it's not what you were expecting you can return it.

Good Old Gold is the best place to get a fancy shape stone, in my opinion, because they check out the light return and make comparison videos for you. That is my recommendation,
