I agree in that I see this one not helping McCain if he tries to push it too far. He should just drop it now and move on.
38.gif
It doesn''t really matter how I feel about the comment..because objectively viewed McCain made the same comment about something different and that is not going to help him.

Not to mention John McCain used the same phrase about Hillary Clinton''s health care system in the primary! Really, let''s get back to the ISSUES and leave the silly stuff behind us. Whoever you support, you should be about the issues and facts not the smokescreens.

Yeah, he did. But again..Hillary hadn''t just made a comment about herself that could have been perceived as leading to this comment. Hence, you can see where the frustration came from whether it was right or wrong. But I agree, let''s get back to other issues.

I took it that she was a pig even if she wore lipstick. But I just read it here and did not see it in context.

All politicians make barbs at each other. This is nothing new. It is kind of the nature of the beast in this day and age, dig up dirt, fight a dirty fight, oh and yes, there is an election herein with all sorts of issues too!
I agree! I didn't see it as sexist at all, just a general insult to the other candidate. I have noticed that many Obama supporters have been disappointed in his latest attacks though because they somehow thought he was "above" those kinds of things.
20.gif
It's politics and *no one* is free of dirt.

ETA: I don't think any of McCain's ads are hurting him...I don't even see them most of the time, but he only runs them for a week or so then moves on. Plus, all the news stations carrying the story is like free advertising for him anyway.

Just watched Obama''s statement. He responded to it relatively indirectly by mentioning it again and going on about political jabs. He claims it was about McCain''s economic policy. Didn''t explicitly say it wasn''t about Palin..I guess he thinks he doesn''t need to, but I really would have liked to have heard those words come out of his mouth instead of him just laughing about it. *Shrug* Sigh. Whatever. He needs serious help when comes to defending himself (he''s not very good at it in my opinion)..and it does seem like he''s all offense lately, I agree with you on that Indy. But that''s for another thread so I''ll shush.

I don''t think his ads overall are hurting him, he''s putting out some great ones. I just think that this ad won''t help him.

I have a sore throat and feel like crap....that''s my disclaimer.

I haven''t watched the ad yet that the Obama camp put out there, but it seems to me by reading this thread that the Obama camp had a missed opportunity to have done it better, unless this is their plan and I am jumping the gun.

If they have so many instances where John McCain and other Republicans have said the same thing about Hillary and the Dems, then why didn''t they use clips of all those phrases in the ad, and then say something to the effect of "We couldn''t have said it any better than you McCain, but it really applies to you, blah, blah, blah. I guess what I am saying is...why didn''t they use the opposition''s own words to come and bit them back instead of now taking the heat. Someone had to see that coming??? If not, someone needs to be a lot better at writing Obama''s campaign ads so they are more effective and not hurting him.

But I am not feeling well today but am trying hard to make it in to work, so if none of that makes sense...well, here goes another disclaimer...

Awwwwwwwwww Janice, I hope you feel better soon sweetheart.

Linda

Hey miracles, hope you feel better soon.

I think the confusion is that Obama''s lipstick-pig remark wasn''t in an ad, it was at a rally or something. But that''s a good idea, they should respond to McCain''s ad with their own ad. But of course, we''d still be avoiding the issues.
19.gif

True, they would be avoiding issues, unless, they showed the remarks after the issues like health care, and some other real issues that McCain scoffed when he made those comments. It''s the setting up of cases mindset. I do that stuff all day. I reveal lack of credibility of plaintiffs all the time using there own statements against them. Which is why I have to make it into the office today. I have to put a case to bed now that I have got the gal to perjure herself left and right. Not only that I have her under oath denying the activities I have captured on film. She''s toast.
36.gif
Another liar bites the dust.

Just another day at the office. Now I have to get in the shower. I am lagging big time. But I can barely swallow. Boo....

Girl, I want your job! It sounds like fun. It also sounds like what I do to people day to day that simply get on my nerves lol.

Wow....lot''s of action since I went to bed. Let''s see here....

FWIW, Miracles, I took your comment the same way that Sarah did.
By "knowing you" I wouldn''t think you''d say that but I''m still glad you clarrified!

Lipstick comment:
I didn''t take it as sexist either. No, I don''t think that the Republican party "owns" the word lipstick, but I think that believing that he didn''t use it in that context is giving him too much credit. I think that he purposely used it in that speech so that when people would hear it they would go back to Palin''s speech and make the correlation. I think his camp was genius in where they placed it because all he has to say is that it wasn''t directed toward palin and we have to believe him. At the same time it was a comment that was going to give his speech more attention and more press. Even watching the video, the way he scratches his head like he just thought of it, and the way he pauses for a reaction in the middle of the saying it..it was just so calculated. When McCain used the saying, he did so in a way where it wasn''t the attention grabber of what he was trying to relay to the crowd....but Obama used it as the attention grabber. And attention grab, he did.

New McCain ad addressing this:
I think it is silly. The McCain camp should have just released a statement saying something along the lines of if Obama was trying to allude to something there it isnt very presidential....or something. lol. The message should be that while we aren''t "sure" he meant it that way, it sounds like it was, and it is unacceptable if he was. Instead his camp is rolling with it...what''s next, t-shirts? McCain doesn''t need to be on the offense right now...he would just ride it out.

About sexism in general:
People are getting sick of all sexism comments about Palin, and I agree that hearing the word "sexism" being thrown around like that is JUST as annoying as hearing the word "racism" being thrown around like that. But there is no denying that Obama''s camp has made it their mission to dig up as much dirt on Palin as possible. I think I read somewhere that his camp has even appointed 30 (+) individuals to do so. Dumped off in Alaska to fish for dirt that the democratic ticket can use against her in the next two months. He''s on the offense against Palin, and we''ve seen a different side of him these last few days. It''s like he''s forgotten who he''s running against. And he certaintly doesn''t like his celebrity beng taken away! How on earth will he write his third memoire if all the attention is elsewhere?

Moon: Are you asking what Sarah Palin''s educational background is, or what her STANCE on education is?
She has a degree in broadcast journalism (that took 6 years and 5 colleges). Figured I''d point that out before someone else did.
3.gif
Sounds like what you were talking about in the Community College thread about not being ready for school and still being in party mode.....except on a much larger, pickier, scale. I heard that she switched colleges in Hawaii because one side of the island rained a lot and she wanted to be on the sunnier side.

Hope you feel better miracles!!!!

**Totally pointless**
Remember all those adds where they had half of each persons face (I think the did one with Obama and Hillary), but their lips were moving in unision? They should do that with this. I think this whole thing is odd (not sexist at all), and I''d get a kick out of it. I''m sure it would just add fuel to the fire though.

I'm not Moon, but I'd like to know what her STANCE on education is. Especially since Alaska has the highest high school drop-out rate in the entire country. I'd like to know her stance on a lot of things, but as of yet, she hasn't answered any questions for the press or at rallies. I'd like to hear her speak herself and not from a speech written for her. I think that would clear up a lot of questions that people have about her right now.

Well I can hope. Yes, they all have speeches, but all of them, except Palin have taken press questions since entering in the race. Right now any clip I've seen of her, she's been repeating the same speech over and over. It was effective speech for her, but it's getting old. I want to hear from her directly.

ETA: Until someone gets caught off guard at the Debate.

I think the point is that Obama writes many of his own speeches whereas she uses a speech writer--it''s something I really respect about him.

This whole lipstick comment uproar is ridiculous--I can''t believe the McCain campaign even got upset about it. Demand an apology? For a phrase you used last year in regards to another woman? Please. The McCain campaign is trying their hardest to paint the Obama campaign as slanderous over stupid stuff. I can''t believe they jumped all over Joe Biden for saying that anyone who''s a special needs advocate should support stem cell research. They said it was a personal attack on the governor. How is that a personal attack at all? That is pure policy. If they''re going to demand apologies for some of that stuff, maybe Obama''s campaign should demand an apology for them lying about his record and personally attacking him for being a community organizer. He got his start doing the very things that the Republican party is supposed to support and yet they mock him for it and continue to deride him as elitist. Just because someone is well spoken and intelligent does not make them elitist. Being so out of touch that you can''t remember how many houses you own? Well, I''d say that''s a slightly different story.

I could care less if someone is a good speechwriter/speaker.

I wouldn't define Obama (his "cling" comments were probably misunderstood), Palin, or McCain (most spouses of heiresses probably don't know how much property they own jointly) as elitist, but I definitely would describe Biden as an elitist & prejudiced against minorities. For that reason, I would not want him to be the one answering the phone in the middle of the night.
20.gif

OF COURSE the McCain camp will try to use Obama's comment against him whether he meant it in a certain way or not. Just like Obama's campaign has repeatedly used McCain's $5 million JOKE against him whether he meant it in a certain way or not. Any words that come out a candidate's mouth will be used by the other party in the most negative light possible. It's up to *US* to make our own judgments as to how we perceive & understand the words. We're talking about politics; you won't get a straight answer out of anyone.
1.gif

I am actually glad that Obama is going on the offensive, it's a nice change of pace. ETA: I think it's funny that the Obama camp explains the pig comment by bringing up McCain's voting w/"Bush" 90% of the time when it's already been established that the truth is that McCain votes Republican 90% of the time vs. Obama voting Democrat 97% of the time! It's more about party lines than anything else.

Not necessarily so. Here in ABQ we have the Sandia and Manzano mountains which separate Albuquerque from some other towns--usually referred to as the East Mountains. Because of the mountains and the way the weather systems work around the mountains, ABQ is a TON drier than the towns on the other side of the mountains. We''ll have threatening clouds all day long, and get nothing but humidity from it, and as soon as those clouds make it over the mountains--BAM! Flash flood. It''s weird though, one side of the mountain is very brown and dried out looking, while the other one is definitely more green and lush.

Having said all of that...who knows? But if you''re going to be in Hawaii, I''d rather have the sunshine any day. But still. That''s a goofy reason to switch schools.

Hahaha, thanks for the info Freke. I meant the fact that she switched schools in Hawaii due to rain had to be an exaggeration (but hey, I'd want the sunnier side too).

I figured, but I just thought I''d throw the weather info in there. I always thought it was really weird. And it sucks because that side of the mountains gets all of the snow--so their schools are closed all of the time, but ours maybe got canceled once a year. Totally sucked when I was younger.

That is true of the Big Island (don''t know if that is where she went to school). Tip for destination weddings - get married on the Kona side of the island.

This reminds me, have you seen Planet Earth? It''s a...I think 6 DVD set in Hi Def. It is gorgeous! Last night, or the night before, heck I can''t remember, we were looking at Tibet and how the moutains stop the rain from getting to one side so viewing (I''m assuming from space) you could see lush green on one side while the other was dry and barren looking.
