Thank you all, you are so sweet.
I (and probably Jim too) will keep you updated of the situation.

My dog is to be pitied more than me: I was so depressed and anxious yesterday that he had to pee on the terrace because I didn''t go for a walk with him.

Hey Stephan, I am just seeing this.

My heart goes out to you. I am glad to see you have received great consolation and support here. Isn't it nice to have a place like Pricescope where you can be surrounded by people who truly know how upsetting such a thing can be?

I wanted to add my vote to those urging you to move forward with confidence. You're in great hands with Jim and I have no doubt all will be well... Think of this time as an added helping of anticipation - and a chance to interact even more with your Pricescope friends.

Also, give that doggie a treat.

Hi John!
I''m happy to see you again!
I enjoyed our meeting in Antwerp!
I opened a new thread that is going on right now, your opinions are highly welcome!

What I find the most shocking is that FedEx, who is responsible for the lost of MY diamond that I''ve paid (diamond + VAT = +/- $ 9,000), called me the first day to say they are investigating. Today, the 3rd day, they leave my e-mails unanswered and the VAT already figures on my MasterCard history. I''m out of patience!

Maybe give them a call Stephan? I think I would.

I called yesterday, FedEx answered they will contact me today when they know more but today, nothing.
Luckily, Jim is working with FedEx in the US.
Once I receive the IS pictures of the new diamonds, I''ll only miss 2 things more:
~ your opinions
~ a mail of FedEx that confirms I don''t loose the VAT
Then I''ll be able to purchase something new.

It is, isn''t it?

Well, I hope things go quickly and smoothly for you, but we''ll be here to help, no matter how long it takes!

Stephen, I''m sorry I''m late to this thread. I can''t believe this happened! The last thing you need is the stress from this situation. Please take care. It sounds though, that things are in hand and on their way to being resolved and while you may not get the diamond you just picked out, I''m positive you will get the one meant for you. You have so many great PSr''s standing behind you, wishing you the best.

Oh Stephan! This is the last thing you needed right now, and I''m so sorry that you''re going through this. I''m glad they are taking care of you, and can''t express how sorry I am.

As I mentioned before call your credit card company.
Explain what happened and tell them to reverse the charge.

This consumer protection feature is a benefit of using a credit card and contacting them is your responsibility, not JA's, not FedEx and not the police.
At least that's my understanding of how it works here in the states.

Hi Moh!

End of this week, if there is no reaction of FedEx, I''ll reverse the charge AND I''ll go to the police to tell them how FedEx delivered my package.

If FedEx contacts me before, I''ll wait one more week to let them recredit my credit card, if it doesn''t happen, I''ll also reverse the charge.

I did send them all the evidences, tons of pictures and called several times.
But they never answer my mails and when I call they don''t know anything.
I''m tired now.

If I''m not mistaken the way credit cards work is that it''s between your bank and james allen''s bank and fedex can''t credit your account.

That''s so awful!!! I would be so upset!!! This isn''t what you need right after your surgery.

I do agree with the suspicion that the universe will dish out to the thief what s/he deserves. That''s usually how it goes, eventually, one way or another . . .

Hi giraffecushion!
I don''t have any problem with JA, Jim Schultz offers me a refund or to buy a new diamond.
The problem is with FedEx who charged me VAT, that is not JA''s fault.
Jim told me he''ll give me a form to claim VAT from Belgian customs, but at yet, Belgian customs haven''t receive anything, because the name that appears in my credit card history is FedEx (FedEx is allowed to charge VAT for the Belgian customs).
And if FedEx charges my card, YES, they are also able to credit it back.
If FedEx knows the ring was stolen, I don''t understand why they need me to fill a form.
...

I am really sorry to hear about the trouble you are going through. It must be really frustrating.

I recently had one company who overcharged my Amex. After a few failed attempts to contact their customer service dept, I filed the complaint to Amex, I got the overcharged amount credited back the next day. A few weeks later, I got the letter from Amex asking some details. But that was it and I was so surprised how painless the experience was.

I would suggest that you email Fedex noting that if you don''t hear back within the next 24-48hrs, you''ll be filing the complaint to your CC, etc.

Good luck!

Thank you for your advice!
I've already sent such an email yesterday, and they contacted me today without anything new, just to tell me they are investigating.
They are investigating in Charles de Gaulle and Memphis airports.
I had the impression that they didn't tell me everything and that my pictures made them understand something.
But as Jim told me, I don't have to worry, and now I'm concentrating on a new diamond.

Thanks to the surgery, I have time to work with Jim and FedEx because I''m at home.
And, luckily enough, I don''t suffer anymore.
I thought it would be worse.
I''ll be back to work the 24th.
Thank you for your kind words, phoenixgirl!

I''m not sure how the VAT thing works but I have to wonder why you have to pay VAT for something you didn''t get/don''t have?

Probably because VAT was charged before anyone knew the ring was missing from the package.

Now it is a matter or reimbursement.
