I was shown a 1ct stone today with a feather in it. I was just wondering what comments some on here may have on this. The feather is to the right of the glare. Thanks in advance!
Can't tell anything by that pic.
Photographing useful pics of feathers requires a pretty fancy macro gear and skill using it.
Even then ALL pics are inferior to live inspection by a qualified gemologist.
One thing that might help is you posting a link to the lab grading report, or a pic of the plot from it, or the GIA report number.
If I can see the feather when I hold it 10 inches from my face is this a big issue??? The loose diamond by itself is priced at $2000 is that a fair price?
Yes, that is a big issue. The price is an indicator that there is something very wrong with the diamond unless you are buying second hand. But eye visible feathers (cracks) are a deal killer as far as I am concerned.
Does it have a GIA report? I still wouldn't buy it but it would tell us more about the diamond.
It is a secondhand diamond, I was trying to buy a 1ct and keep it within my price range. It is a really nice diamond besides the feather. It is a friend of my family who is selling it to me so He got the best diamond that he could for around that price. He said we could go with a smaller diamond that had better clarity but then again it's smaller. He said he could do $3300 for a three stone custom set and the center 1ct that he bought this week. My future fiancé could care less if it's a diamond or cz but I just wanted to see what folks on here thought.
Go for a better quality diamond a little smaller! Get GIA Excellent cut, and at least SI1 on clarity, maybe H-I color. I wouldn't want the big feather (crack) because the diamond could break more easily.
