So I have been searching based off of my FBIL instructions.... yellow gold, possibly marquise.

Well he and I did some sleuthing. I showed her my marquise ring and she seemed interested but not thrilled.... so I asked him and that's a shape HE really loves.... Haha so that's out!

Then he was sure she would like yellow gold as she loves vintage stuff. Well of course he found faout she didn't

She like rose gold! Now of course I love that because its very unique. But of finding a vintage rose gold isn't too easy. Clueless found me a nice one but of course he wanted a diamond.

So I was searching looking for stones that might work. I was finding SO FEW stones that would be the size he would like. There were K pears but that's too yellow, K step cuts but they were too deep... well I stumbled upon this beauty! Good specs I think, and 5mm! With the simple setting that's 752!

Would love your thoughts. Getting idealscope images soon!

Pretty excited.

Or if you can find a better one for that price please post ::)

Is it eyeclean, can you see the big feather between the 7.00 o'clock and 8.00 o'clock position in real life? Because its on the edge you might be able to hide some of it with prongs. It will also pick up a lot more body colour in a rose gold setting, you can see the yellow hue as it spins....

I do believe it would be eye clean as those seem prongable and the size seems fine.

And j think the body color will be just fine. Not a lot of body color with a stone that size, and the prongs will be white..... when my .8 was in a yellow gold with white gold prong setting it was very white. I think it looks lovely

Remind me of the budget again...

700

I agree the cut looks fine, the stone itself looks fine. I would just ask them if its going to appear eyeclean when set. All stones aren't created equal with body colour and undertones. One "J" can look very white another brown another yellow or even green....

Yes I'm aware. But color as someone with multiple smaller k colored stones in certain this will be nice. Even without considering budget. But especially considering. And yes clarity was going to come up. But sense the next closest stones I could find in budget were smaller and worse clarity I thought this was a find ::)

I like the diamond you found, from what I can tell. But I like a little color. Remember how pretty Meg's diamond is set in rose gold? This could have the same feel.

I agree it can look cool, it depends if they are people who see it and don't mind (even in that size) or people who see it and freak because they expect a diamond to look white. Truthfully most people don't even notice colour, but there are a tiny percentage that do... I love the rose cut you found - nice!!!

Oh yeah, it totally depends on their taste - and we're all different aren't we.

I really love that east west rose cut. Too bad it's twice the budget.

megs rings is like an O-P the color in that and this stone is like the difference between an F and this. So i dont think it will look like that at all.

It will be in white prongs.

and we are very happy with the color.

does anyone think theres a stone better for cheaper or the same price. Its 572.

I think it's a pretty diamond and I don't think they're going to be like "look at my pretty yellow diamond." I was just saying that even if the color was noticeable and the rose gold accentuated it, it can still be gorgeous - like Meg's. That's all I was saying.

It's going to look great in a simple setting. What setting is it going in? And what a great price!

haha i know! sorry, i probably came off defensive. I was just sayin an OP i think is more of an acquired taste, where a K is safer. :wavey:

A K is much safer, absolutely. I bet the average person doesn't see color in a K right?

People usually start to notice tint in an I, but to notice tint and to not like it is two different thing.

I've read on other diamond sites if the metal is yellow or rose gold you're very safe in a K....

And I'm also just judging based on my cultural norm. Most people in my area do not have well cut stones, don't have large ones, nor particulaly stark white.

A 5mm is average if not larger than most stones in my group of friends.

Also, based on personal experience having a 0.32 and .8 in a k and having had it in white prongs and yellow band, that it is sufficiently white and attractive.

So that's why I'm comfortable with a k.

I think that if the images come back good, you should jump on it. And what setting? I'm dying to know :D

Lovely. I'm a sucker for a 6 prong setting.

In that case it should look fine, they won't even notice any colour. That setting with white head/prongs will be great!!!

Yeah I hope so. I know ideally I'd get her a higher color of budget allows. But his budget is soooooooooooo small. This is stretching it to the limit. And he really wants to get her something "that will wow her..." and he's concerned a lot about size. When I started he was like "oh she doesn't care about big rocks" but I think he wants er to have something she's proud to wear around, you know..... so I'm trying to work a miracle. :halo:

I can't find anything better for the price. Well found!

My only thought would be to ask IDJ if they could procure an uncerted stone with ideal cut, K or higher, eye clean in a larger size for the budget. (I haven't read all the posts in the other thread so forgive me if you've already tried this!).

Niel,
I believe this stone qualifies as working a miracle. Well done.

Hey Neil! I don't think that I was around when you posted your initial thread about your fbil but I did try to catch up and read through most of it. I'm not sure if this ring is for your sister or for your SIL, but either way I guess I'm wondering if she has had an opportunity to view your stone in various lighting to see how they feel about the color. I think the only way to know if it will be a safe choice for her is if she has seen the color in person and decides that she either likes it or is willing to accept a lower color in order to achieve some other goal, like size, cut or clarity. From this thread it sounds as though your fbil has been able to get more information about what she likes and doesn't like....preferring RG over YG for instance and not liking a marquis, is it possible for him to find out how she feels about lower colors as well?

I can appreciate what a challenge this must be for both you and your fbil! You're a great SIL for offering all your help and support! :))

I think you have. And the good news is, there's an upgrade policy for later down the road!

Unfortunately the beings at this price range (500-700 he has decided to splurge to get the 750) don't have the luxury of a lot of options. He can go used, but I mean, what color will those be, KWIM? From an extensive search the best I've found in the round variety is about. 45ct as well. Plus, they are smaller as they are old cuts, and not in rose gold. Or he could buy a smaller stone, but for example, I asked James Allen to find 2 compairables to get idealscope on as well, right? The best they came back with was 2 4.7 mm noticeably included I1s in H and I think J. So its like, we would have to go down to 0 35cts to get any sort of noticeable color and eye cleanliness, and he isn't willing to do that.

Plus as BCAT said it has a nice upgrade policy as to allow him to go bigger and better in a few years, as even double his current stone price is still only about 1100.

And they have a nice return policy, so that's something.

I would try these guys...they have some very reasonable rings and you might get lucky with rose gold.

I've looked there and no there isn't one that would compare.

I am surprised that some people arent more positive about the stone. I think its amazing to find a stone like that st the price it is. Its hard! Let me tell you.

And it would make a beautiful ring for a normal Midwestern gal.

I think I was trying to respond at the same time you just did, but I needed go and log in. I think that this will make a very nice ring, for any girl! We ALL have to work within a budget and have to make sacrifices accordingly and I think that you've done a great job for your fbil. I don't really think that anyone is down on this stone, I just think that no one else has done the extensive search that you've done to realize that this might be the only really good option out there. FBIL wants a diamond not a colored stone, his gf wants a specific metal and has obvious preferences for certain shapes....that significantly limits options, so I agree with you...this stone and setting are likely the best option out there right now and it will be beautiful! The only other vendor I can think of that might be able to help is IDJ and I think they were mentioned before. Have you tried them?

Honestly, a 1/2ct plus setting for under $800, with a 60 day return and an upgrade policy I think is a miracle. See what the IS says. The good thing about the upgrade policy here is while I generally have issues with the "spend double" requirements, in this case it won't be hard to meet. I don't personally think a stone this size is going to be an issue with color, but if it does turn out to the be the case, you do have some options (returns and upgrades) which you would most likely NOT have working second hand or with an antique ring purchase. Given the serious constraints you have had with size requirements and budget requirements, I do believe you've probably hit the best option for the current time.
