What are your favorite movie soundtracks?

I love the soundtrack from Amelie, Oldboy, and just about any Wes Anderson film, though Rushmore is my fav. Not surprisingly these are also my favorite movies, though I think I'd love the soundtracks even if the movies were terrible.

Footloose
Dirty Dancing
10 Things I Hate About You
Top Gun
...pretty much any John Hughes film :praise:

The one I play most often:

Philadelphia. Loved the movie too.

I haven't seen either of these films - but I love the soundtracks:

Until the End of the World. An eclectic mix that includes some avante garde music and takes some getting used to, but it also introduced me to Jane Siberry's lovely "Calling All Angels" (sung with KD Lang). Slightly different version here - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRUErh47sao

Martin Scorcese's The King Of Comedy (1982). I have this on well-worn vinyl  . Unfortunately it was never released on more current media, apparently due to ownership or royalty disputes. One of my favorite songs from that album is The Pretenders - Back on the Chain Gang. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6RCZ9c7IzQ

Musicals are a whole 'nuther topic - I think we had a thread on that not too long ago.

The Sound of Music, The King and I, Dirty Dancing, Saturday Night Fever, Roadhouse, The Wizard of Oz......I could go on and on....

Sound of Music, Singin in the Rain, Labyrinth, Pulp Fiction, LOTR.

Dirty Dancing is my fave, too!

Though I do t listen to the whole soundtrack, the version of Don't let me be Misunderstood from kill bill is amazing and I listen often.

Pride and Prejudice
Atonement

both by Dario Martinelli

Pirates of the Carribbean
Hans Zimmer

How to Train Your Dragon
John Powell

Cold Mountain
Various Artists

(Don't Laugh)
All the Twilight movies
Various Artists

The Princess Bride
Mark Knopfler

The two I think of, just off the top of my head:

Pulp Fiction
The Big Chill

(Only soundtrack I actually own is Pulp Fiction)

Westside Story, Sound of Music, Phantom of the Opera, Evita

Apart from musicals (and there are many that I love, such as Singing In The Rain, West Side Story, The Song of Music and Grease), I can't think of a completely film soundtrack that I would listen to, back to back.

However, there are many film related tunes that I love, in no particular order:

Tara's Theme from Gone With The Wind (my favourite film of all time)
Theme tunes by John Williams such as Star Wars, Superman, Raiders of the Lost Ark, E.T., Jaws, etc. etc...
The Imperial March (as in Darth Vader's Theme) also by JW
Can You Read My Mind (the love song from Superman) also by JW
The theme tune of North By North West

DK :))

Oh DK! Gone With the Wind is my favorite movie also!! I read the book and saw the movie for the first time when I was 12 yrs old.
I memorized passages from the book and quotes from the move. Still love the scene where Scarlett shoots the Yankee who was stealing
those earbobs!

Pulp Fiction

Purple Rain

Breakfast Club

Any John Hughes movie, really...

Last of the Mohicans

Breakfast at Tiffany's

The Bodyguard

Great thread! Love most of the ones already listed, too.

Les Miserables.

Good Will Hunting - my roommate freshman year played it all the time

Great Expectations with Ethan Hawke and Gwyneth Paltrow - that was what I deemed "sexy" at 18.

The Commitments

And they didn't use different singers; the actors actually sang their parts.

Ha! Mine were City of Angels and Romeo and Juliet! Eh...I didn't really have a handle on what made a fantastic score or what was "sexy" back then. High school.

My freshman year of college was chock full of Alanis Morrisette, Jewel, and Sarah Maclachlan. I'm kind of loving the 90s references, not gonna lie.

GAH!! ROFL   OMG - ROMEO AND JULIET!!! I own the soundtrack! How could I forget? God I loved that song "Pretty Piece of Flesh" and thought it was so deep and profound for the singer to repetitively chant "I am...a pretty piece of flesh I am..." :errrr:

Ugh... my college besties were always playing the City of Angels soundtrack and I remember hating the Goo Goo Dolls because they were EVERYWHERE and I only like the Alanis song on the soundtrack because it was evocative and eery. HAHAHAAHHA

God, I was adorable.

Good to see someone else appreciates GWTW! :wavey:

The whole film is just excellent from start to finish. I was lucky enough to see it on the big screen when it was restored for its ? 50th anniversary, and the cinematography was just breath-taking. They really do not make them like it anymore.

I was young when that first came out. It introduced me to Nick Drake. So did the Royal Tenenbaums (also amazing soundtrack).
Now nick drake is one of my favs, so I appreciate it for that.

The Heart Asks for Pleasure First from The Piano is a beautiful song, by Michael Nyman.

DK, GWTW is my all time favourite movie too.
