I thought I would start a topic (If any one actually comes here lol) about our favorite series of books. I have several! :)

1. The Harry Potter Series (JK Rowling)
2. The Sookie Stackhouse Series (Charlaine Harris)
3. The Stephanie Plum Series (Janet Evanovich)

These are total guilty pleasures and I have re-read HP and Sookie a few times. I am on book 7 of the Stephanie Plum series and really like it thus far.

What are your favorite book series that you keep coming back to?

My favorite series authors:

Lisa Gardner Boston PD series
Louise Penny Montreal PD series
Jan Karon Mitford series

These are all very different books! Lisa Gardner is gritty, with some "language". Louise Penny writes "smart" mysteries; and Jan Karon is "feel-good fiction".

I loved the Charlaine Harris series about Aurora Teagarden. I'm sure her vampire mysteries are just as well-written, but I just can't get into the vampire/paranormal stuff.

Holly--I've wanted to read the Mitford books since studying at Appalachian State University two summers ago. DH came out to visit me and we spent a weekend in Blowing Rock, which is right next to ASU.

Stacy--My favorite series are Harry Potter and the Sookie Stackhouse series, too! I reread HP about once a year, but I haven't reread any Sookie books yet.

I haven't read many other series as an adult, now that I think of it. I adored series as a kid and young adult, though.

I just can't help myself! I am always re-reading both series..gotta love it! :)

Oh and I thought of another.

Percy Jackson Series (Rick Riordan)

I do just love starting with a younger character and 'watching' them grow in a book series.

Harry Potter by a longshot.

Sookie is also really good, love me some Eric!

Has anyone read the Tomorrow series? It's by an Australian author, and the first two movies have come out now. I watched most of the first one (Tomorrow When The War Began) on tv last weekend and it wasn't bad.

Who wrote the Tomorrow series? I would definitely be interested in more details!!

I love a good series, I always want to know more about so many characters when I read a book and hate when it ends! I of course love Harry Potter but my first love happened when I was about 10 years old I found a box in our basement with my dads college reading list and most of the books and among them was the Hobbit and I was hooked from there so I would say that is my favorite, I also really like William Kent Kreugers Cork O'conner series, he is from my home state and I love when people write about places I have been. I like Janet Evanovich for a great laugh and also Mary Janice Davidsons Betsy Taylor books, love these! And Patricia Briggs Mercy Series, fun stuff. When I was a kid I read every Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys book I could get my hands on, and also the Anne of green Gables series and the Laura wilder books, love c.s lewis to, I still have all of them and have thought I should re read them, I did the Narnia books when the movies came out but every once in awhile I am tempted to sit down with Nancy Drew. So I guess you could say I also have several.

Stacy, The Tomorrow series was written by John Marsden, it is a australien series, I think there are 8 or 9 books, I have not read any but saw the first movie and was intrigued, It kinda reminded me of the patrick swayzee movie Red Dawn I think it was called from the 80's, the kids go out camping and while they are gone their town is invaded and they find out they are at war, I have been going to look for the series (they did not have any at halfprice books and I am very cheap) I was going to peruse ebay next.

I have a number of favorite book series, but top of the list right now are:
1. All of Tamora Pierce's various series, starting with The Song of the Lioness quartet
2. John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice series
3. Elizabeth George's Inspector Lynley series
4. Daniel Silva's Gabriel Allon series

I was snooping around PS and just found the library! I am not much of an avid reader any more. But I occasionally pick up a book.

I watch True Blood and I've had some friends tell me to read the Sookie Stackhouse books, but I had yet to get around to doing so. I just ordered the first book in the series! Thanks for the reminder!

It's been a long time, but in high school I read every Piers Anthony book I could get my hands on. My favorite series of his was the Xanth series, but I read about 4 of his entire series's (sp?). He is a sci fi/fantasy author. I started at the beginning of the Xanth series which the first book was released in 1977 (3 years before I was born) and quit reading them at about the 25th book in the series. That was my favorite until.........

The Harry Potter series!! I went to midnight movie showings, book release parties (dressed up of course!) and listened to HP podcasts. The best thing about that series was living through it being written and having so many people who shared my love of the books and were involved in speculation on the storyline. I was totally obsessed and so was everyone else in the world! I think it would be hard to beat!

ETA I read the Hunger Games series recently too. I enjoyed it but some things about the last book just pissed me off. :angryfire:

Gem, the Sookie books are ridiculous. While I love True Blood, I do feel like the books show you more of Sookie and she just comes off slightly differently than the show. BUT I love both! I think the Sookie books are very amusing though and I'm sure you'll enjoy! In my head, I pictured her differently than Anna Paquin. Like about 30 lbs heavier lol

Oh you are funny about HP! I didn't get in on the hype until about the third movie and then I started doing midnight showings and REALLY becoming obsessed. The funny thing is that I didn't actually read the books until after I saw the 5th movie. But boy, when I read them I became even more obsessed and those characters became friends. I have never dressed up to see the movies, but I went to every midnight showing after the third movie and have just fallen more in love them! DH and I have watched all the movies three times together (for him, that is HUGE, especially when he is the one who suggests them) in the past 2 years and I look forward to watching them a fourth time with him too...I am going to read him the books as well, I just haven't gotten the chance to yet. I started book one for him on a road trip and I think he liked it :appl:

You're lucky! Every time I put in a HP movie my DH falls asleep and he doesn't read so there is no chance of him picking up the books either! I don't think he will ever share my love of HP :) I guess that's what moms are for

Secretly I think that DH loves the movies, but he always says 'you looked like you could use some HP'..lmao! DH doesn't read mush either (well, he found one biography that he LOVED, but can't seem to find anything else to catch his attention) so I think my reading it to him (like on road trips and such) is about as good as its going to get. He doesn't seem to mind though and knows that its just sort of my thing. Oh and my mother thinks I'm a bit nuts, so it's really just me who loves them and obsesses about them..not a problem in my book!

I have been neglecting to check out the Library lately!

Ok, so HP. Always. :praise:

I am re-reading right now, because it's such a soft place for me to land after every crazy day, heading up to bed, checking in with my favorites. I want another set, so I can take notes and highlight things in my set, but my notes would ruin things when my (future) children (hopefully) discover them, too. So I need two sets.

Percy Jackson, for sure.
Hunger Games, yup.

My first series love was for Nancy Drew; I read every one my local library had.

And my heart was won by David Eddings in The Belgariad. Fantasy, coming of age, wonderful strong female characters, witty.
And forever and always, I love Lloyd Alexander's Prydain Chronicles. Eilonwy was one of my first heroes. Fantasy, extrapolated from Welsh geography and mythology.

Stacy, I think you would enjoy both of these very much if you like watching a cast of characters grow up!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a long time since I've visted this forum! I've read some series but none, except The Hunger Games, are exactly my favorite series. Harry Potter was good too.

I did read The Hobbit and loved that book, but it was torture making it through the three Lord of The Rings (for sure NOT my fav...it took me six months to finish The Return of the King!) lol

Yanno, I read LOTR. I had to take a looooong break in between the first and the second books. I can really recognize the mastery and I loved the story lines and the characters...but there were so many words to say even the simplest thing. I haven't gone back to read them again, which is unusual for me, and i never did make it around to the Hobbit. Although DH is encouraging me to read that one now.

I loved the movies for this very reason- they caputured the characters, the gandeur, the plot, the arc of time and space the books portray without all the weight. Except...except...my very favorite characters, The Ents, their beautiful history was not in the movie. :blackeye:

How does everyone feel about Narnia?

Ohhh! Thanks! I will put these on my hold list at the library and check them out :) I am always on the hunt for new books!

Aviastar, you said it once, but I certainly think we are the same person lol

Has anyone tried the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind? I'm thinking about starting it...

How does everyone feel about Narnia?

The Hobbit is the easiest in the series, that is for sure. My son read it. I don't know how well he comprehended it, but he made it through it!

I LOVED the movies. In fact, we rewatch them often.

I enjoyed the Narnia movies, but didn't make it through the first book. I am able to read some children's novels, but I just couldn't get into it. I'm not sure why. I also couldn't make it past page 29 of Twilight! lol

The series below are books that I've read at least 5 times each, so they must be my favorites! :)

George RR Martin - A Song of Ice and Fire
Jacqueline Carey - Kushiel Series; Naamah Trilogy
JK Rowling - Harry Potter

Some series I found easy to read and enjoyable:

Charlaine Harris - Sookie Stackhouse Series
Richelle Mead - Succubus Series
Rick Riordan - Camp Half-Blood Series

Series I'm currently reading:

Robert Jordan - The Wheel of Time

:read:

Guys. Diana Gabaldon, Outlander Series.

Seriously, read it immediately!!! Her writing is amazing, deep, funny, captivating. And there are now... 7 books, I think, each 1,000 pages long. ANDDDD they're currently filming a STARZ miniseries based on it!

Basically: British woman from the 1940's mysteriously travels back in time to 1700's Scotland and falls in love. I know what you're thinking, but these aren't romance novels! They're really good and really fun. http://www.amazon.com/Outlander-Diana-Gabaldon/product-reviews/0440212561/ref=sr_1_1_cm_cr_acr_txt?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=1

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3006802/plotsummary?ref_=tt_ov_pl

Also, I LOVE Jean Auel's Clan of the Cave Bear series. :)

For series my tops are:

1) Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series
2) JK Rowling's Harry Potter Series
3) Tolkein's Lord of the Rings series (as well as other Middle Earth writings)
4)Phillipa Gregory's Boleyn series

There are so many to choose from! But I'd say my top are:

1. The Chronicles of Chrestomanci (Diane Wynne Jones)
2. The Dragonkeeper Trilogy (Carole Wilkinson)
And, of course, 3. Harry Potter (JK Rowling)

As you can see, I love fantasy. I thought the first two Hunger Games books were excellent, though I wasn't a fan of the last in the trilogy.

I have a lot but here's what got into the top of my list:

Hunger Games-Suzanne Collins
The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes- Arthur Conan Doyle

I'm more of an author based reader so I'm not really keen on series, rather I follow anything my favorite author writes.

Hunger Games
Divergent series
Twilight

I never could get into Harry Potter.....and I tried a few times!
