I love reading all of your stories--I think it''s so interesting when someone has a great story behind their name.

Get this--my mother is German and her father died three years before I was born. She wanted to name me after him, which is understandable. His name: Fritz. My mother''s proposed name for me: Fritzy Rae. My father stepped in and said she''d have to have a daughter with another man if she wanted to name her Fritzy. I ended up with a very American-sounding name, Lori, but I think I could have definitely pulled off being a Fritzy!

Anyway, the names I like right now are:

Boys: Ascher & Landis
Girls: Anais, Pier, & Grey

I like ''em unique, but that''s probably because my name is so plain!

I won''t go for names with the same letter as an existing immediate family member or as surname, so that means all baby names cannot begin with A, H or M - which cancels out loads of my favourites.

FI and I are hoping to try for a baby at the end of 2008 and we have very different likes and dislikes on names. Currently we like:

Girls: Daisy, Pandora

Boys: Robert, Edward

I''ve always wanted a son called Bertie and Robert is a family name (both my grandfathers.)

My parents had some odd ideas - I ended up as a Helen but would have been Hamish or Tristram; my sister is Susannah but would have been Durmid; my brother ended up as Magnus and my other sister is Charlotte (we were old enough to veto the stranger choice she might have been!)

My sister has called her daughter: Polly Scarlett and her son: Douglas

My favourite boys names are as follows:

Ignacio, Laszlo, Adlai, Stanley/Anastasio, Oliver, Diego, Jaime

Laszlo I can't use since it's not really an English or Spanish name but I might try, I love Ignacio (Nacho) but the fiancé hates it because of the Nacho, he also dislikes Jaime but I love it. Stanley is my grandfather's name; the nickname for both Stanley & Anastasio is "Stash" which I love.

My favourite girl names: (not really needed since I won't name future girls unless it's the last):

Felicity, Luna, Lucia, Matilda, Bianca, Cordeli, Eva

I love Luna (yay, Harry Potter), I like Binx & Flick (nicknames for Bianca & Felicity). I love Matilda but the future dog might have a name simliar to that so it might be out of the running.

I keep a list of names bu the computer, just in case I run into a name I like. I also have longer lists, but they're for Sims. :p

My best friend''s daughter is called Luna - she''s french and husband is italian, neither had seen Harry Potter

My cousin also called his second daughter Matilda - she''s known as Tilly. I love the name, but it was also the name of my father''s favourite goat when I was a child!

Not even sure we will be having kids, but a girl can always imagine the names she would choose if she did, right?

I am also a teacher and have had students absolutely desecrate any hopes I have ever had of naming my future kids certain names I thought I liked...the worst one being Kayleigh, which is my mom''s middle name and my middle name put together with our same spelling...those have been some of the worst students I have ever had, and all with that exact spelling! The ones with other spellings, they weren''t so bad, actually! I may have to rethink that one!

I had also always considered trying to combine my FF''s and my names: Russ & Shannon to make Rhiannon, but a cousin did that years ago. Not saying I wouldn''t do it, but I would like my child to feel unique. It''s still a definite favorite as I am a huge Fleetwood Mac fan...not every little girl has a song named after her!

I have also considered trying to put some family names together from my maternal side of the family: my grandma''s name was Myrtle Anna, my grandpa''s name was Ransom, but he went by Randy, and my mom''s name is also Randi...all that put together I came up with Miranda, which I loved until Sex and the City''s Miranda started to wear thin after awhile, and of course the one Miranda I ever had in my first grade class was a terror! Maybe I should get out of teaching for awhile! J/K!

Some other names I like are:

Girls: Addison, Cassidy, Delaney, Jillian & Tessa

Boys: Not too sure...I liked Trenton, but that ended up being the little brother''s name to the Miranda I had...and their mother is a girl I went to high school with...small world!

I''ll have to check out some of the names listed...maybe I can come up with some boy choices! This is fun!

Thanks ladies!

Okay, so now the list has grown to
Natalie
Mallory
Ella
Claire
Keely (I like that!)
Olivia (might be too common though)

Ahh...so hard!

It is hard, Tacori! Glad one of my suggestions helped the list grow. Keely is a great name, original w/o being totally out there (e.g. 4real). I love Olivia, but would never choose it because it''s so common. I''m sure you''ll choose the most beautiful and perfect name for your little girl.

We both like addison too but again, too common. I have a VERY common name and ALWAYS hated that! I forgot I have always loved Emerson too (emmy for short) but think that might be too out there for DH.

ETA: Kimberly what middle name would work with Keely?

Emerson is gorgeous and I love Emmy! Another girl name I love is Lyndon, Lyndee for short. Hmmm, with Keely you could do

Keely Clare (it''s a bit sign-songy but sweet)
Keely Elise (another beautiful 1st or middle name and not too common)
Keely Michelle
Keely Renee (that''s alotta ''e''s!)
Keely Noelle (will she be born or was she concieved around Christmas?)
Keely Marisse
Keely Layne
Keely Siobhan
Keely Rochelle

The baby will be born around Halloween. Our friends just had a baby girl and names her Ann Elise (so that one would be out). Sometimes I hope I am having a boy just b/c we already agreed on the name (that sounds horrible!)

Tacori,

It sounds logical to me to want a boy. Here are a few more:

Keely Jane
Keely Grace
Keely Alexandra
Keely Elizabeth
Keely Eileen
Keely Nicole

Tacori, love your choices so far! DH''s cousins just adopted two little girls and named them Mallory and Meredith... I loved those because they were unique and interesting but neither trendy nor boring. But they HATE the nickname "Mal" for Mallory, and insisted from the beginning that she would never be called that... they tried to push "Ree" instead. Well she is not even 2 yet, but all the extended family is constantly slipping and calling her Mal... so just a word of caution if you don''t like Mal for a nickname!

I always try to think of girl names in terms of whether they would be cute on a little girl, but also distinguished on a doctor or professor or businesswoman someday. Example: DH loves Riley, but I just can''t imagine seeing that on a resume and taking it seriously.
5.gif
I LOVE Claire and Ella but they are very popular nowadays, so you''d have to weigh the pros and cons of how much you like the name vs. how much you want something unique.

I think out of all your choices, Natalie is my fav... beautiful and unique but not over-used... perfect combination.

Keely Nicole

I do love Grace and a middle name. I also love the idea of using James as a middle (I think there is something cool about girls having boys names and I was surprised when DH was open to it) My middle was Elizabeth but I legally dropped it in favor of my maiden so maybe that would be cute. What makes it hard is when we tell our family members there is ALWAYS someone who hated someone with the same name.
20.gif
Kind of impossible to please everyone (which I know) so I think DH and I just need to brainstorm. I thought Keely Olivia might be pretty too.

Tacori an idea if you dont mind: have 2 choices of names ready. You might see your baby & think Natalie for example doesnt suit your little one. We had list of names with us at the hospital which were our favorites. I let my husband decide the final name.

I didn''t even see your post up there! I don''t mind "Mal" for a nickname. I think DH likes Natalie the best b/c it is the most classic. Perhaps I can use more of the unusual/trendy names as a middle. Like Natalie Ella or Natalie Claire. I told my mom we were talking about names and she said "I thought you already decided on Natalie" (BTW I like Natie as a nickname). I figure I have three more months and it might not even BE a girl so I should explore all our options.

Vegas' idea is a good one. My cousin named her son David and three weeks later changed it to Alexander because it didn't suit him. We were all so confused!

It is impossible to please everyone...the only people you need to please are you and your DH, just keep that in mind.

ETA: And Keely Olivia is a great name too!

That is true. Maybe she will look like one name over the other. I think I have basically broke my DH down

He finally said I could choose but I *do* want him to like the name. It is kind of fair since if it is a boy he will be named after his late uncle.

Kimberly, I know. EVERYONE has their own opinions and now I realize why some couples keep their names a secret. Oh well. Too late for that now! Would having KOM as your initials be ok?

One more thing, I like James for a middle name too, I think it''s cute.

Tacori, I have a friend who has two boys but her maiden name was Addison and years ago, when it was NOT popular she was going to name a girl that. But she had two boys and is done more than likely. She really wanted to use that and have a girl.

I like Logan for a boy a lot, and I like Sutton for a girl too. How are you feeling by the way?

I am feeling great. Just really tired. Sometimes I get dizzy but I think that is from the heat. I try to drink lots of water. I am starting to feel stronger movement which is really exciting (for me). Thanks for asking!

If Addison wasn''t so popular it would be on our list. It was one of the first names we agreed upon. Sutton is a cool name. Too bad DH likes traditional names. Mallory is too wierd for him
20.gif
I probably have a greater chance at getting Keely. My maiden name would be too strange as a first name so that is out. I love the idea of that though. It is cool when names actually MEAN something. DH did have a great-grandmother named Wave! Even that is too out there for me.

I *KNEW* there was someplace on here I could post this.

So John and I have been talking a bit and we are now only 60/40 against having children of our own (as opposed or 90/10 a couple of years ago)... so we started talking about baby names.

And he feels very strongly that he wants to name a possible son "Aeneas."

Now... help me out here. What do you all think of that?
33.gif

For a boy, we've already decided we'll name him Henry. For a girl, we have a 'top 3': Claire, Eleanor and Charlotte. Another 'boy name' we love is Oliver, which we'd use for a second son.

We're going to start trying in March, so we might have use for one of these names soon.

Oh, no doubt. How is it even pronounced?

A girl that went to my high school had the last name "Jacov". She changed it our senior year; we were all surprised she went that long.

I''m wondering the same thing!

Gypsy, that is BAD. Anus anyone? I guarantee you that is what he will be called. Would be my life on it. Not a good idea, in my opinion!

I love your names. Charlotte is so great for a girl but since we live in Charlotte I figured that joke would get old very fast. I used to babysit for a little boy name Henry and there is something SOOOOO cute about little kids with such grown-up names. I love it!

I agree w/Miranda Gypsy.

I like the name Lucinda and nickname Cindy. Kind of cute.

We definitely have similar tastes in baby names! I love Natalie, but we wouldn't use it because it's the name of one of FH's exes. It's a lovely choice for a girl, though.

There's just something about the 'classic' names (especially the ones that aren't popular).
