All - those wonderful people who sell those nice coloured diamonds at fancydiamonds.net have started to unseal their IGI diamonds from the capsules, what do you think, does this spoil the experience? I like mine sealed when delivered

I think the poll may have been set up improperly...but yes sealing seems like a good choice to me, unless you are asking a company to veiw it for your oor campare two or more stones.

Sorry i can''t get the poll working, any how my point being that good quality photos versus getting my stone sealed in an IGI capsule is the question?

Its impossible for me to re-sell if needed when the stone is unsealed. Sealed is a good sign of authenticity but not necessarily quality though!

1) IGI reports on fancy colored diamonds are worthless
2) Buying a diamond which is sealed in a capsule is a very bad idea.
It is crucial to inspect the diamond thouroughly- which is impossible to do if it''s sealed in a capsule.

I empathically agree with Diamonds By Lauren''s posting.

The sealing of a diamond in a capsule iw basically HYPE. It was used during the investment diamond era.

A diamond if properly graded ( with fancy color diamonds the GIA report has the lead here, anything else will just result in far lower pricing and value generally).

The ability to throughly examine a diamond, especially expensive fancy colors DEMANDS the stone must be very intently scrutinized. THE IS IMPOSSIBLE when the stone is sealed in those little capsule type thingies.

Further a Fancy color diamond not with a GIA report grading the color, would probably be worth 40-75% less than the same diamond with a GIA report.

Proving the authenticity/identity of a fancy colored diamond in generally very easily done. Carat weight shape, table size measurement, and inclusions can separate this. However, besides this GEMPRINT is also very reliable. Even the HOPE DIAMOND has benn GEMRPINT registered.
