Eye-clean emerald cut?

Looks like it might be, but I'd have James Allen have a gemologist view it for you before I'd buy it.

They told me it was overseas so I had to buy it before they could look at it or get an ASET.

Depends on your definition of eye clean, I reckon. Clean from 6"? 12"? 3"?

The inclusions in the table and the reflections of the table would catch my eye, but I'm a clarity whore :P

Well I can't even focus on my ring until it's about 8" from my eye, might be because of my superstrength contacts, so I guess eye clean to me is probably 8 inches. I am so nearsighted that I have supermagnified close up vision when it's uncorrected so I have no doubt that I will be able to see the inclusions sometimes, I feel like I just don't want to see them all the time. But I'm afraid I'm going to find out I'm a clarity whore too!

I'm with @OoohShiny. I'd see the inclusions, but I'm also a clarity whore in diamond step-cuts. I'm much more forgiving in colored stones if the color is pretty enough.

OP, can you remind me of your budget? There are a couple of lovely ECs over on JBG that look so pretty to my eyes. Less spread than your posted one, but the stones are just so pretty.

{both makes us clarity whores happy}

Thanks for your response and suggestions, rocky. My budget is a bit flexible but not quite $18k flexible since this is hopefully one of many future upgrades. I'd like to stay around 9k, but the perfect stone I could make an exception.

Those are nice stones you picked out but I am not a fan of the 1.2 ratios. I would prefer 1.35-1.45.

I'm open to other sites but my current stone is from JA so I will get full trade in value there, not sure if other sites would honor that trade in policy. But I am going to take a look around JBG since I was not familiar with that site.

I hate having rubbish vision - when the zombie apocalypse comes, we are surely doomed lol

I would perhaps suggest that if you have doubts now, they might well not go away if/when you bought a stone with inclusions that might be visible sometimes - as I believe Dancing Fire's signature says, finding a Mind Clean stone is much harder than finding an Eye Clean stone!

The benefit of the PS-recommended vendors, though, is that you can buy the stone and then return it if inclusions are bothering you already within the return period :)

I received this diamond and I really like it it, but I still have some concerns. Here is where I'm at: when the diamond is loose, I can usually see the inclusion pictured on the right side of the diamond. I can even see it from a distance and it does bother me, but when I have it in one of those temporary spring settings, the inclusions completely disappear to me and I am very happy with it. I'm guess this is due to the reflections from the metal. So my question is, do you think I will get the same effect-meaning the inclusions will disappear-when the stone is set in my tapered baguette setting?

I'm also worried about weather the new stone will look proportional with the baguettes in my current ring and whether the color difference will be too great (the center stone will be a D (old one is an F) and the baguettes are "G-H"). What do you think?

It looks lovely to me. I think most clarity and even color worries are "mind clean" issues. I have (among other diamonds) an I1 which hasn't yet been set. I hadn't looked at the diamond for a while, and it really took me quite a while to locate the inclusion without loupe, although I know exactly what to look for :) Once I had yet again seen it afresh, it was much more obvious. It is an smaller stone (0.64), but still.

I really think once your diamond is set, you won't notice the inclusion, but only you can tell if it will be clean enough for you.

I'd also say it looks proportional, the baguettes being sort of an extension to the band. If you want a more "side stone" look, you'd might have to go for larger stones.

All in all, it looks really beautiful to me.

So nice ... & mightly different classically 'cut cornered' personality, than your former baguette-ish EC !

Nothing else noticed: no detraction, no distraction.

Thanks for the replies. I'm also s Lille concerned about how cut the corners are, in not sure how the will look with my prongs. Will it not look squared off enough? I was looking through the emerald cut SMTR thread and searching google images to find an example. Are there any PSers with an emerald cut that shape with single prongs like mine?

Funny that ! [in a good way]

As far as I remember, most folks here want this shape - it is reputedly old school (see Gem Concepts).

The relatively sharper cornered shape of your original EC (Art Deco ghost) is up for revival, I'd venture ... Has not been yet.

Re. single progs & broad corners: I'd compare the size of the corners & prongs, on a drawing - seriously enlarged [half palm-size, say] ...

Just a thought

It seems that double prongs are de rigueur to emphasize the fashionable octagonal-ness...

wow, sorry for the typos from posting on my phone. I don't think double prongs are going to be an option since my upgrade is through JA.
