Extra Facet? Huh?

What is an extra facet? Will it completely make the stone look retarded? I''m reading it''s done to clean up the cut grade of the stone? My biggest fear is it takes away from the stone, but I''m reading it''ll also add some brilliance to it? is that true?

My old emerald cut diamond has an extra facet too but I never noticed it in person. Then again, it was a small diamond of only 0.7 ct.

It shouldn''t even be noticeable, frankly - it''s usually just a tiny little point on the girdle where the cutter has repaired a chip, removed a blemish, etc.

It will be something nearly invisible which you can find with a loupe to re-identify your diamond from nearly all others. Sort of a birthmark. I wouldn''t stress out over it.
