Can you tell me if a stone that is 7.2mm round will fit into a 4 prong setting that now holds a 6.5mm round stone? What is the max size that will fit? Thanks, Mokey

I think this depends on the design of the head and the skill of the benchman. Can you post a photo? I''ve seen cases where stones were too big for the head and it doesn''t look good, but other cases where a smaller head was used on purpose. In the latter case, the smaller heads were opened up more to set the stone low and the result was beautiful. Check out Mara''s ring.

In general, heads for 1ct stones may accommodate up to .25 ct more, but the condition of the prongs must be considered in each case; even when the diamonds are close in size. The seats have been cut in your current prongs to accept the 6.5mm stone, so a 7.2 mm round (in the 1.35ct range) should require a new head.

That''s what I thought. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
