Wondering if anyone has any experience with Chubb Valuable Articles Coverage for a diamond ring?

Currently I'm not able to add the ring onto my exiting homeowners policy and have been told that Chubb Valuable Articles Coverage is a better way to go anyways. On paper, the Chubb policy looks fantastic to me.

Does anyone have any firsthand experience dealing with this type of Chubb insurance? What exactly will it cover? Loss? Damage? Chipping the stone? Theft? etc etc.

I'd really like to insure the ring just to cover all my bases. Is it smart to insure a ring? Good idea? Bad idea?

Thanks in advance.

Well I just got my CHUBB policy kit in the mail today...not much help to you though, but I think the concensus is they are great..

You should call Chubb to get info on what it covers--get the info straight from the horses mouth.

I have Chubb and they cover virtually everything but intentional damage to the ring and/or normal wear and tear. They also do not cover earthquakes I think? Or something like that. Maybe it's just my area...I live in SF Bayarea.

They cut you a check if anything happens to the ring and it's lost, destroyed, or not recovered. I liked the simplicity of their policy rather than some other policies we had reviewed which had alot of stipulations and/or requirements for replacement etc.

Chubb is slightly more expensive but I think it's worth it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the info, Mara. The two insurers that I primarily see are Chubb and Jeweler's Mutual. Anyone have info on the latter?

Mara - which agent do you use in the bay area? I just purchased an engagement ring and all the Chubb agents I call (Mountain View/Los Altos) never call me back. Quite frustrating.

Chris--I can't really be of much help as we insured directly through Chubb, before they stopped people from doing that unless you only had a Blue Nile ring. So we didn't go through an agent, but just called Chubb directly.

There has been another recommendation on the board recently for a Chubb agent somewhere in PA or similar...if they let you use an agent outside of your area, then I would follow their advice and use him...from the posts I saw..he seemed highly recommended and will not try to make you move over your renters or homeowners to Chubb in order to insure your ring.

Good luck!!
