Evaluating jadeite (feicui)

Now I am excited that you like it Crimson! Good points--for some reason I was thinking GIA would evaluate the ring as a whole on the same report.
Here is some video. I don't think it glows.

Ooh, it looks clean! Since it is white, it should ideally not have any black spots or inclusions. So far, I seem to see only a couple of small ones in the video. I’m not even sure whether they are inclusions or some artefact .
Do you know whether it has a closed or an open back?
Is the price negotiable, and can you return it if you don’t like it?

There are no pictures of the back of the but I will see if I can ask if it is open or closed.
The price may be negotiable. I would certainly try.
Yes, I can definitely return it I I don't like it.

Omg squeeeeeeeee

Cannot wait to see it!!!!!! Absolutely cannot tell if it will glow from a few pics but I hope it will glow for you. It’s beautiful

Also re testing: They test ONE of my beads only in every necklace I’ve ever bought. Random bead so you just have the pray the rest are all authentic

Thanks!!! I cannot wait to see it either! It will be my very first piece of jadeite!!
They did not test any of the beads, so I hope they are of good quality.

Very excited to see your ring @Odyssey44

I’m thinking… perhaps we should start a “Show me your jadeite” thread? And keep this one for evaluation purposes?

The pearls were very lustrous, pinkish and near round. My friend’s put them on immediately :kiss2:
Her earrings are turquoise. Very pretty. If she didn’t buy them, I might have.
Another friend just went in and bought the Santa Maria aquamarine earrings that he posted today. The Crimson jewellery friends’ club is real :mrgreen2: Now helping another friend get earrings from Wriston, LOL.
On a separate note, I did something terrible! I bought the giant ring that I posted earlier.
It is about 20-21mm in diameter, 6.5 mm thick. I think it could be a good friend for your heart ring?IMG_0120.jpegIMG_0119.jpeg

Your ring is amazing and stunning. Looks like candy! Thank you for sharing this one of a kind ring.

Thanks Pomelo. I'm happy to post however people would like. This thread has been such a help to me and I love how it feels we are shopping together!

Guess what, guess what, guess what? I offered 4k and they accepted!! so the ring is on its way to me and we will see!!

Wowww! So excited for you, and glad you got a much better price than posted. :appl:

Thanks, @Pomelo. Maybe we should rename this Everything Jadeite - one stop for learning. PSers’ jewellery and intended buys (for feedback), and updates. I am not sure if jadeite has the same following as diamonds. I think it might still be a niche topic here so a one-stop service might be more helpful.
To me, the examples posted here are very educational! It might also be strange to have evaluation separate from examples :eek2:, but anyone is free to start a new thread.

Glad you like it, @LightBright. I love one of a kind items.
Another jeweller who saw it told me it is a philosophical design,. He said it reminded him of the Chinese idiom 时来运转 (when the time comes, luck will turn for the better). When I searched for the idiom, I found that Piaget had used it to describe its Possession spinning rings.

I looooooooooove it!!!!!!!

I feel like if I were to be a true jade connoisseur (and I’m not) I would make a critique about the centre stone and how that could have more glow and less cotton etc etc

BUT on a personal level, I think the ring is fabulous and I personally love it, would keep it and wear it heaps.

Hope that makes sense!

I love it too. I love how it looks on my finger. Yes, I do understand--at first I thought the center stone had a lot of cloudy areas, and did not like it, but they move. They never seem to stay in one are. I think this is the cotton. It is very hard to see from afar on my hand. For me anyway.

It's here!!! What do you think?

What presence and it’s a lovely design!

I agree with @mellowyellowgirl ‘s assessment of the jadeite itself - the cabs could have less cotton and more glow, but I think that would also cost $$$$$! And it may also be the angle of your photos.

As an example - I recently bought an icy “floating flowers” bangle and wanted to show the different levels of glow depending on the angle. (I know I’ve said in the past that I don’t do bangles… but I have quickly gone down the bangle rabbit hole!)

Different angles showing different levels of glow, I think it really depends on where the light source is coming from (? - maybe, still learning here! Also, please excuse my mosquito-ravaged hand :lol-2:)

EDIT - sorry just saw you posted a video to Imgur, there is more glow in the video :)

Thanks Pomelo! That bangle is lovely!! I definitely need one to wear with my ring! Yes, I could not embed the video! The glow really depends on the light so much. For the video I held it right next to a lamp CFL light bulb. I'll have more pictures. I still need to see what it looks like outside!

I bought these interlocking floating flower blue rings. Now I bought a pair to make earrings but now im torn

I was thinking of just getting some huggy earrings to wear them as earrings. Or I can loop them with some bracelets to make an anklet or bracelet or perhaps wear them as a pendant. are these too dangly for men earring?

It looks so tranquil. Like you, I appreciate the clouds. The green jadeites are bright and saturated \, the ring is big, the design is harmonious:kiss2:
If you love it, it’s meant for you. Especially with jadeite, the sense of knowing whether it is for you is important. Hooray for your, @Odyssey44 :appl:

Wow you really went for it! This id a serious buy @Pomelo :kiss2:
It has that yummy, gummy, watery, icy look.
It is so very full and plump, which is auspicious!
Have you been wearing it all day? Do you intend to keep it on and never take it off?

I love, interlocking circles. Would ones that you’ve chosen be a good weight for earrings? They look quite plump and heavy. I understand earning weight is quite personal. I am asking because I am sensitive to weight of earrings. I like the loop as a pendant, especially the black pair.

I love it. The little diamonds add just the right sparkle around the green jadeites. It is very calming! I have worn it already and could not stop looking at it. It was highly distracting! I love thinking of what you said--the sense of knowing the jade is for me. I feel it! Thank you so much Crimson for imparting all your knowledge, helping me evaluate the ring and giving me the confidence to buy it! I would not have it without you!

Yay! So heartwarming :kiss2:
It’s good to wear it often. As the Chinese saying goes, people cultivate jade for three years (by wearing it); jade cultivates people for life.

Oh I’m so glad to hear that you’re keeping it @Odyssey44 ! It’s glorious!!!!

I’m going to start a thread for everyday jadeite wearing so we can post lots! I think it’s a great idea from @Pomelo as I often want to post random, repetitive pics but I feel it will clutter up this thread too much!

I love it!! I was thinking I have to take her for a shopping cart glamour photo, the way you do!!

Thank you Crimson!

The idea was to get one bangle that I never take off, but the variety of jadeite is so varied that I couldn’t help myself and bought several over the last month. As the Chinese saying goes, I’ve fallen into the pit (入坑, like down the rabbit hole).

And, sorry for the ramble below, but I’m still collecting my thoughts on how I feel about jadeite bangles…

I’m a bit annoyed by myself because I bought too early without knowing what I truly wanted, but I guess it would’ve been hard for me to know my preferences without buying a couple of bangles first and getting a feel for them.

This is why I haven’t done any reveals, as I’m not sure whether I am satisfied with what I’ve bought…!

The zhongshui floating flowers (more like floating sea grass, or maybe even just a spot of algae) bangle I showed earlier is my favourite, but I guess the problem with buying via livestreams on social media is that I am bombarded with photos of “true ice”, “icy-glass” and “glass” bangles, and of course it makes me want to double or triple or 10x my budget :roll2:

Further, zhongshui jadeite - I guess like diamonds - is absolutely stunning when the light hits it right (like seeing rainbow flashes from diamonds), so on livestreams and other peoples content, everything looks incredibly glowy because the lighting environment is either tightly controlled or they only post the best photos to social media. On top of that, photo and video editing is so widely used in China, and my brain has trouble separating what’s real and what’s been enhanced :confused2:

I guess what I trying to say is, I think there’s mismatch in expectations vs reality: I’m expecting my bangle to glow 100% of the time when actually it’s only like this 10% of the time, and the rest of the time it looks like the section below… but this is unrealistic as diamonds don’t flash 100% of the time either!

IMG_5984.jpegIMG_5985.jpegIMG_6114.jpegIMG_6104.jpeg

Light source not right = very little glow
IMG_5775.jpegIMG_6025.jpegIMG_6112.jpeg

(Thank you PS for letting me vent, it’s been a highly addicting but slightly frustrating jadeite bangle journey!)

I doubt you’d find this comforting since I’m a colour tart but it looks glowy to me @Pomelo.

That said I completely understand your sentiment! Happened to me on my big pink journey and it was very vexing.

Thank you Crimson!

Thanks for sharing, @Pomelo . Yes, jadeite is one of the most exasperating coloured stones evero_O
The bangle looks glowy in the first four photos, but the glow may not be visible from your angle. It ‘s at the lower part of the bangle, near your wrist. Even with my little glassy cabs, there’s a bit of a ‘“now you see it, now you don’t” phenomenon.
Yes, I have learnt to distrust the pictures that I see online, especially for Jadeite. Have you seen the kinds of lights they use to illuminate the pieces? There is a mixture of red and blue, and the light is extremely bright. So it’s really not like any natural light.
I think your bangle is beautiful.

Thank you Crimson!

I do love it. I am noticing in the last picture your bangle has a lavender tinge. My ring's center stone does the same. It looks snow white sometimes and then I look down other times and think, wow, this stone is bluey-lavender!
