Evaluating jadeite (feicui)

Thank you @Crimson and @MMtwo. I appreciate your help and will definitely look at the suggestions from @MMtwo. I really want to get that shine and glow back. I will report back if I can get it done. Attached are photos of my bracelet. Sorry for the poor quality.jade1.jpgjade2.jpg

Please do not apologize, as well all love pictures! I hope one of the referrals can assist in a polish. I love the glow of the stone. Also, you can also wax it to give it a bit of polish. Just use a white candle or paraffin, rub it on the washed and dried bangle, and then polish with a rag.

I found a nice tutorial at Mays.

This tutorial looks quite manageable to try! My initial challenge will be to take off the bracelet, which I haven't done in almost 20 years! I'll have to use a lot of soap and water...

I’m in the process of buying a bangle and so have been reading everything I could find online. There are many mentions about B/B+C jade but it didn’t ‘click’ until I saw these pictures exactly what the treatments do to the stone. This is so gross

Good of you to do your homework! When I started buying jade, I made so many mistakes. I bought anything but jade :). In time I learned better and the biggest lesson was stick to reputable sellers. In another forum that focuses on purses, there are reputable seller threads. The bad stuff is bad.

It is lovely and looks good on you.
Here is a video on how to remove the bangle. Pls ignore the first several seconds - they made a few jokes before getting down to business.

Thanks @nyapple I agree those treatments are Utterly gross! Here is a nice summary from Mays

To soothe us. Here are some fab jadeite pieces I saw recently. They cost a Bomb so I just admired them.IMG_0025.jpegIMG_0024.jpeg

Not sure if you tried yet, but I would suggest a towel or even over a bed to make sure it doesnt go flying onto a floor and break.

I agree! Try to do it gently and have lots of padding around.

Wearing Nephrite jade necklace which I bought from Ping Amber when searching for a jade necklace last year, unsure about the quality as it’s my only jade purchase. I like the interspaced 14k beads and the green colour of the jade beads.
I’m so interested in learning more about jade unfortunately, I always fall for the most expensive pieces and don’t have the confidence to know what I’m really buying so I don’t buy.

What a beautiful necklace. Best advice, especially in the USA, is to stick to trusted vendors. Utimate Jadeite, Yokdee, Baikalla are a good beginning. Jade is very expensive in general.

@MMtwo I’m so pleased you like the necklace, thanks! I live in Australia not the US, I have been about to press the ‘buy now’ button for jewellery from Kathy Jade but stop myself to keep researching. I also love the jade jewellery from Little Jadeite House that someone posted in another thread.
I will have a look at the vendor’s you suggested.

@Brigid It is tastefully done and so elegant! I collect nephrite too, esp the white mutton fat pieces. A few weeks ago, I went to an event. The woman next to me wore a luscious mutton fat nephrite pendant, skillfully sculpted into a flower bud. It was about 7 or 8 cm tall with a 3 cm diameter. Swoon… It is an heirloom.
Besides the shops that @MMtwo mentioned, you might also want to look at Classic Jade, Jadestory, and On Cheong Jewellery. All three specialise in jadeite and Classic has a big nephrite collection too. They are all based in Singapore. You can ask them to send you more photos and videos if you want more info. Have fun browsing!

You have beautiful jewellery and taste @Crimson, I really appreciate your reply. The nephrite white mutton fat is stunning, I have come across some gorgeous pieces through my research but never IRL as you have, lucky you!

Aww, thank you @Brigid i’m just lucky to live in a place with a high concentration of jewellery stores, and a densely packed population.:mrgreen2:
I have bought items from Kathy Jade returned some of them. Often, their pieces are not as nice as they look in the photographs. it’s very difficult to photograph jade well, but I think some other companies like On Cheong or Classic Jade do a better job.

Hi Crimson,
Thank you so much for making this thread! I've learnt so much about jade from your explanations and the pictures help a lot!

I'm not sure if this is meant to be a mostly educational thread, but I was wondering if I may ask you and the other jade experts on here a few questions, as I'm relatively new to eploring the intimidating world of jade :)

Hi from a fellow Australian! :) (Do you happen to know any places in Sydney where I can view high quality jade?)

I've also been looking into Kathy Jade the past few days, and found one ring there that I really like (a pear-shaped jade that seems to be very lively and bright). Have you (or any others here!) purchased from Kathy Jade before? They seem to have some really nice pieces, but I think I read somewhere that they are a bit overpriced as they are a brick and mortar store? I've also heard that Mason Kay is suuuper overpriced, but does anyone know if Kathy Jade is as bad?

Near imperial-level pear-shaped jade seems so hard to find, but I'm also relatively new to jade and don't think I know where to look! Does anyone have any suggestions, or has anyone seen any nice pears (or marquise!) offered by trustworthy vendors recently? :D

I feel like I'm the same! I keep oggling all the pretty glowy pieces on Kathy Jade and GemGardener, but I feel like a total noob when it comes to jade, and am scared to commit to anything :(sad

Oh, there is also Mays AU Good luck!

@Bookwyrm I live in Melb but travel to Syd often as we have family and friends there, I haven’t looked for jade when in Syd, my usual focus when buying anything is from the Paspaley store at Martin Place (pearls are my most favourite gem, after diamonds)
As @MMtwo mentioned Mays looks good and they’re in Melb, they are on my list to visit and try on bangles.
It’s great to hear from a fellow Aussie, good luck with your jade search!
Looking forward to @mellowyellowgirl thoughts.

Hallo!!!! I am here but I am useless because I have only ever bought jadeite from China. I tend to go on a rampage, get everything I want and then stop in my tracks.

I also tend to opt for colour so have many super bright, glutinous pieces but not the crazy expensive stuff!

Thank you for the recommendation! <3 I just had a look at Mays, and found an icy green pendant with a really pretty almost imperial colour but it's trapezoid in shape :(sad Why is it so hard to find a nice pear/marquise shaped jade!

Thank you! Ooo pearls! I don't know much about pearls in Sydney, but there's some really nice antique jewellery places in Queen Victoria Building, the Strand Arcade and the Dymocks Building! Everytime I go past QVB, I always have to go stare all the shinies at Karen Deakin's :kiss2:

I didn't have much luck finding a pear-shaped jade on the Mays website, but thank you for the recommendation! Do you happen to know any other jade vendors in Australia? I'm starting to feel like it's impossible to find that dream dewy drop of glowy pear-shaped jade :(sad

Hi!! :) I LOVE the shade of green of your ring! Is it like a teal green? I'm not sure if my laptop is displaying the colour correctly, but it looks like the prettiest shade of bluish green! Would that be considered a glutinous jade? I would love to see more of your collection!

I would like to visit China and Hong Kong some time in the future, but that would probably be years down the line. I'm totally open to jade vendors located in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, etc. but I just can't speak/read Chinese, so I don't know how I'd communicate with them :lol-2:

Do you (and anyone else here!) happen to have any recommendations for Chinese (or other) Jade vendors that may have imperial or near-imperial jade? I feel like pear-shaped jade seems rather uncommon, and I'm having such a hard time finding any pieces at all. I only really know of GemGardener, Kathy Jade, 1st dibs (not sure about the vendors on there though) and Mason Kays (which I've heard is really overpriced), and Kathy Jade seems to have a really large collection, but I still couldn't find any nice pears/marquise pieces. The search continues!
