Hey All,

Thanks so much for all the help and information on this site! Being someone who can barely decide which restaurant to go to, this sites really help me in deciding/how to decide which ring I ultimately ended up with (that I'm really happy with). I have a few last questions however.... I would like to get the engagement ring engraved. My questions are as follows
1. I wanted to have it engraved before proposing (I'm 99% sure the sizing is right) is this a good idea or wait to make sure she really likes what I've picked out.
2. If I get it engraved before proposing I've found a place nearby that does engraving in house and takes about an hour.
2a. Should I get the ring insured before having this done?
2b. Can I leave the ring there for an hour and run some errands and come back to pick it up, is this risky or should I not even be worried about it?
3. I got the stone and band off of Blue Nile. I was told if I got it engraved it would still be returnable if I paid I think $25 to have it repolished, can anyone confirm this is true?

Thanks again so much for everything!

Congrats on your impeding engagement! I love the sentiment of engraving. If you have any concerns about her liking the setting, etc. perhaps wait and get it engraved around your wedding. Then you can add the wedding date to the engraving if you’d like (helps many people remember anniversaries and there is no shame in that :D). Yes, have the ring insured before handing it over to anyone. It is not risky to leave it for an hour. If you have docs with the exact measurements (which you can get from lab or appraisal) you can check the stone dimensions with calipers when it comes back (the ability to do this depends on the setting), or get a loupe and check for inclusions or if the stone is engraved with a lab number check for that (since it is from BN I assume it came with a GIA report).

First of all, congratulations on your upcoming engagement! To answer your questions --

1. I would wait to have it engraved. In my case, we ordered the e-ring in my true size. However, we ended up having to size it up a smidge, because it felt too tight when I wore the e-ring with my wedding band. You just never know with sizing and what ends up feeling the most comfortable.
2a. Yes, definitely have the ring insured before letting anybody mess with the ring.
2b. What kind of risk are you worried about? That they'll swap out your stone or something? Because from what I've read on PS is that things like that don't really happen IRL. I've had a few pieces engraved at a 1-hour jewelry repair mall kiosk, so I don't consider it risky. But then again, I'm pretty naive so YMMV.
3. Sorry I haven't experienced returning things with BN so I can't comment on this. But I hope that if you have it written somewhere in writing, that they will honor it?
