Hello,
I, too, am guilty of being a lurker - for the last year!

Anyways, finally figured out why I couldn''t post, or I would have sooner. You all, I can say soundly, had a good influence on our choice for the diamond. I won''t bore you with the details except to say it is a flawless .54 princess cut. He went for color/clarity/cut over size, and the brilliant fire has been more than worth it.
Regardless...

I currently have an engagement ring, but it was purposely purchased with a plain setting - as he knows that I would like to pick out my setting.

At first I thought I wanted a vintage style, but realized that so many had somethinga bout them that I didn''t like. That and many were too pricey.

So, I saw a ring just recently here on stackable rings, they are really thin, micro-pave style. I am looking for an engagement set, with both rings having that ''stackable'' look, but what really I am stuck on is the profile. I love when the prongs/head have some sort of detailing...and in this case, perhaps micropave on those as well.

I have to be careful, as the diamond is a bit on the smaller side, so I am hoping this setting will agree more with the size.

Does anyone have any idea where I can find a set like this? Even if it doesn''t have the pave head/prong? And if it doesn''t, do you know where I can find the prongs to replace the plain one with?

We are on a budget, as most of us are.

I am even willing to do blue sapphires - white gold is preferred.

THANK YOU SO MUCH...and so very glad I stopped lurking!

Hi ByGoneEraBride! Congrats on the stone - I am sure it will be stunning, we will need lots of pics once set!

I don''t have anything helpful to add, except to say welcome

I am sure lots of others will chime in here for some helpful posts!

Hi Bygoneearbride!!

Congratulations on your engagement! This will be the busiest and most exciting time of your life...and I am personally so happy for you!

Your stone sounds incredible...and a princess cut...I love a princess!

I would be more than happy to get to work helping you select a setting to hold that beautiful rock in place...please share the budget range you''re working with so we can be realistic while searching!

Hello!
35.gif

Thank you so much for the warm welcome.

Price...hm, lol...as cheap as possible. Alas, I''m realistic and realize that wishing for cheap price on quality items is...impossible.

We are on a budget, as most people are, and I''m hoping because we are talking thin settings with minimal diamonds, that we can do the set for 1 to 2k. Prefer, it to be on the lower end. At one point I found something similar to what I wanted at a place called Ultra Diamonds, but...at the time I was on a search for something else. I just remember seeing it and the nice price. I do remember it did not have the head I wanted.

I just tried to get some pics, but I have one of those cheapy digitals. I''ll get out the good digi later.

I cannot say enough thanks for your help!

Ok...

So...found a ring I really like, BUT, it is discontinued. If anyone is familiar with Vera Wang, there is a member on this board who HAS MY RING!!! LOL

There have bene numerous discussions on how the ring may be too ''dainty'' (I believe it is 1.3mm) for a pave setting, but I''m looking for something just like this, for my princess cut.

Here is the pic:

The diamonds do not need to go all the way around the bands...and I''d love it if they weren''t at a Vera Wang Price. The needs are the diamonds on the prong and the general thinness...though I dont'' think it NEEDS to be that thin. Anyone know what a safe thickness is for everyday wear?

I really really really need some help on this. I went to a local jeweler, two in fact. one was willing to create one for me (not what I want to do just yet....if I can help it, and find something already cast). The other just told me that I was being ridiculous about having pave in the prongs, as it would be losing diamonds left and right and that he wouldn''t even sell me a ring smaller than 3 mm. Hmph.

I really am set on this ring, or something very similar. It doesn''t have to be as thin...but 3 mm for me, is too thick. There has to be a happy medium.

Anyone have ANY suggestions.

Anyone have any opinions about having diamonds on the prongs? or a way to get the look without having issues ? Was the jeweler just being a jerk? I say that because, well, he wasn''t very nice. The fact that I went in in jeans and a t-shirt got me way way way different service than I got when I was in there in something better.

Just having a negative reaction to what I really want, and I do want it - but I want it to last.

I'm so sorry you had a negative reaction at the jeweler's. As far as safe, I personally would not go below 2mm in a diamond band. That's what mine is and it is just fine.

Brian and JohnQ explained it to me this way: How easy is it to break a round dowel with your hands? Now drill holes in it first, and then try to break it. The thinner the dowel, the easier it is to break. Same thing with pave bands. A diamond band has holes drilled in it to seat the diamonds. See the point?

I understand. So 2mm is fine with me, really. Is it ok to pave it still?

Still on the search for this set...

Have you looked at Ritani? they are very thin, just under 2mm. here's butterfly's set, the first of the e-ring, the second with the stacking wedding bands and the second pic the same setting with a princess: check pricing for WG and palladium as that will probably keep you in your budget.

My band is 2mm pave in plat. It''s just fine.

Hi bygonera bride,
I know it may a little different and a lil more expensive than the vera wang you were looking at..But the JB star rose is gorheous IMHO and may be a diff way of approaching getting diamonds in the prongs? I''m sorry, I don''t know how to link HTML yet, but if you go to the JB star site, then engagement>>rose>>I think the one with the smallest band on page 3. It also has a vintage but still modern look.

I know it may not meet your criteria, but just food for thought?
I am curently hunting my own setting, so will be sure to let u know if see something else

I had to quote this, because...well these are STUNNING PERFECT PERFECT PERFECT.

Is Ritani a bit pricey? and....those Vera Wang rings are way out of our budget. Way. way. Paying for a name.

I can''t say thank you enough. Those are stunning!

I''ll be on Ritani''s site for a bit searching for those. I am confident that I can find a matching band anywhere, its the setting that is my concern.

Ok, new question....

I just inherited...*gasps* a 3 karat princess. It''s...huge for me. HUGE. Anyways, I don''t want the fiancee to feel like his isn''t big enough, as I LOVE LOVE LOVE the one he got me. But...if I find a simple, thin band setting, so that I CAN wear it with my thin new wedding band...does anyone know where I can get a simple, cheap setting? I dont'' mean...cheap, I mean, inexpensive because its a thin gold band with no diamonds?

I''m terrible with search engines. Terrible.

I CANNOT thank you enough!

bygone, pearlmans is a PS vendor here that carries Ritani. their pricing in on their site and very competive. they aren''t cheap but for a designer ring, they are priced well IMO. also, the prices are for the rings in plat. so if you are willing to do a different metal that will bring the cost down. just about any jeweler can get you an inexpensive setting for you 3 carat, just try to stick with WG, plat will be high, even in a plain stock setting.

So Ritani is just OUT of budget. For just the setting alone, as I inquired to Pearlman, is almost our entire budget.

I passed up at a local jeweler yesterday...a deal of a lifetime. But they had a half hour left of the wholesale half off thing that I stumbled into - and my fiancee lives in another state at the moment - and could not get ahold of him. The thing was, it was made for a cushion cut diamond, and it was going to take a bit of work due to the diamond detailing on the head to make it into a fit for my princess. But at 750.00...*le sigh* I just couldn''t do it without KNOWING if it was going to look masacred. I trust the jeweler - heck I trust most of them. But they aren''t "my" jeweler.

Anyways, still on the lookout for this. I''ve searched and found tons of people here who have ''my'' ring -but all of them are so darn expensive!
