Engagement ring setting - channel?

Whichever is shinier/blingier. That's my criteria.
Honestly I think both would meet your needs. There's a good chance your cousin's ring doesn't use nice melee in the pave. If that's the case- pave or channel set, it still wouldn't sparkle that much. Use a good company for the setting and either would be sparkly.

For you sounds like channel set or bright set is the key. Both will be sturdy and have that ribbon of metal around the outside.

Thanks Niel!

What is bright set?

Now you're talking! I love those latest rings you've posted simplesimon. I've always loved BGD's truth head and I like the look of the centre bar turning downwards. I think either of them would be beautiful though.

Thanks msop04, it reminds me of this one I saw:

What do you call that style of prongs?

That's a nice ring... and great quality. I don't know if there is an actual term for the type of prongs, but I've always referred to them as "bead" prongs. LOL 8) Personally, I'm not a fan of them, but that's just a personal preference. I prefer a prong style that is more pointed like this:

I agree with Niel; bright set pave is the way to go for your needs. I don't usually like channel set rounds because of the dark areas around the stones. Of all of the settings posted (that fit the bill), I like the eBay setting suggested by msop04 best. This one offers the protection of a channel set with the elegance of a pave. It also has a nice presence for a size 7 finger. The only downside is that it is tapered, which means a straight wedding band will not fit flush with it.
