Hi All,
I am looking for some help on picking out an engagement ring like many a noobie on here. I just barely escaped buying an engagement ring from a local jeweler where I live in Iowa after doing a bunch of research on here and online. Felt a little bad as I pulled out at the last moment, but I think I made the right decsion.
Things that triggered my BS meter was the fact that no matter how much I told her I was looking for an Excellent or Ideal cut I kept getting shown stones graded as Fair, Good or Very Good and it seemed she was mainly focusing on color and clarity. The final straw is that when I was in looking at the setting I noticed that it was like hallowed out on the underside which made me think it was cheap and probably not as sturdy as a solid setting. The stone was an EGL F-SI1 Ideal Excellent Cut for about 4000, the setting was around 1500.
So now I am starting fresh, and while I think I have a decent grasp on finding stones I am wondering where would be a good place to look for a setting? My GF loves this setting http://www.sylviecollection.com/detail/round-brilliant-diamond-engagement-ring_189.html so I am looking for one that is pretty similar to that one. That exact one is at GenesisDiamonds.net for 2400 but I am having problems finding it other places online.
As for stones, I would like the total cost of the ring to be under 7k so I assume I have around 4500 - 5k for the stone. I would like to get the best possible cut as I want that baby to sparkle, and hope to get something larger that .90 carats. Is it possible?
Any suggestions on stones or places to go for settings would be appreciated. Thanks!
