Hi all,

Can someone please recommend a jewelery designer in Toronto, Canada. I am looking to make a custom design for an engagement ring... 1.25ct solitaire with pave setting. Something similar to Vatche designs:

http://www.dvatche.com/index.php?page=collection&catID=2,18&startRow=12&id=62
http://www.dvatche.com/index.php?page=collection&catID=2,18&startRow=6&id=57

Budget is not an issue as long as the price is competitive. So far I heard some good feedack about P&H design, Randor and Josephine's... I would appreciate if somebody had a personal experience in T.O.

Thank you!

I'm familiar with Randor (Randy) and have seen some of his work in person. It is quite nice. However, if you want very competitve prices, go visit Alta Gold Merchants (Pauline). She can source diamonds or will just make the setting and have the stone set (whatever you choose). Her store is in the Stage West Hotel (Matheson and Dixie) 5400 Dixie Road, Mississauga (905) 625-1893. She has been in business over 20 years and has many contacts with good bench people in Toronto. Many of the Peel Regional Police deal with her and the majority of her business is referral. She is very easy to talk to and, if she can't make what you want, she'll point you in the right direction.

Below is a list of local custom design jewelers. I would still rather work with Leon Mege, Steven Kirsch or Victor Canera remotely.

Central Diamonds - Warren
416-866-8111
Note: A bunch of my fiance's friends went here for their engagement ring. I saw the work and it was good.

PH Design
149 Church Street at Queen St, East side on the second floor
416.367.2870
Note: I would only use them for making the setting and not buying the diamond. I have used Paul a lot of times for putting my color stones in settings etc. They usually only deal with wholesale but takes consumer business as well. They do pretty good work.

Leif Benner
Distillery District - http://www.leifbenner.com
Note: My co-worker had an e-ring made by him. I was pleasantly surprised at how it turned out. They make you CAD drawings first until you perfect the design. He seems really flexible and cares about make you happy.

Ast Jewellery
http://www.astjewellery.com
Note: I recommended this list to my friend and he ended up using them. The ring turned out nice but I think Leif did better work. AST has good prices.

Myersons Limited
http://www.myersonslimited.com
Note: Used by my co-worker who was happy with the results.

Rose Jewellery
21 Dundas Sq #1201, 416-366-1157
Note: Victor has been recommended by several vendors. They are located at Dundas Square across from Eaton's center. It is not the one with a website.

Thanks Farleysmom, I am more concerned with the quality of work rather than saving a few hundred $$ on the setting. Will definitely check out both places.

Thanks for a great list. Will definitely check them out... I am getting my diamond from Whiteflash and would like to get the setting custom made in T.O to make sure I can keep a close eye on the design :)

I went to see Paul at P&H Design just a few days ago... I heard that he is actually making settings for many jewelery stores... so being one step closer to the source (or in this case to the design place) probably has its benefits.

How was the quality of work and the setting that P&H made for you?

Thanks.

I am going to have to vouch for AST jewelry as well. I actually just picked up my 1.24ct Tiffany novo replica from them today.

I bought the diamond from him as well. Boy was I pleased. I can't wait until the ring is on my ff's hand.
Sevan is a great guy to deal with, very honest and patient.

I have never made a custom piece with Paul as I am just way too picky. Paul set over 15 stones into settings for me - he did a good job and I was satisfied with the service and after care. The work I have seen in his office was good but I am just way too picky with my pave, curves and super delicate rings.

Go check out Leif too .. he went through so many revisions with my friend - each time with a full set of CAD images. The rings are handmade (not sure if completely hand forged or he uses a cast). The prongs are not as good as Leon but the pave and detail was pretty good.

I have been communicating with a few designers in Toronto and Leif has been the most responsive and polite so far. I found recommendations of his work from a deals website.
