So I''ve been hinting around a little bit about re-setting my engagement ring. DH is on board and we have the setting ordered through a local jeweler that should be in on Tuesday (!). Basically, my setting is not holding up like it should and I''m tired of having it repaired. I''ve had the prongs on the center stone re-tipped two times in the past year and have had the prongs fixed several times on my sidestones and wedding band. Looking closely at my setting it also appears that some of the sidestones on the e-ring are not set quite right. Ugh. I love my setting, but it''s time for us to part.

While we were at the jewler, the SA happily showed us some of their Heartstar diamonds. Wowie. Very pretty indeed. We say thanks, we already got a stone, and leave it at that. We leave the store and a few days later my hubby says that he was impressed by the Heartstar diamonds. Very strange coming from someone who really doesn''t give a hoot, but wants his wifey to have the best.

So, my gears start turning and I start thinking of ways to get my hands on one of these little beauties. I''ve always felt sort of eh about my stone, and DH knows this, so we''re not opposed to trading in the stone. Not knowing if the jewler does this sort of thing, I called them this morning and asked the SA we met with previously. Found out that I can get $ for the stone (and some other pieces I have) to use towards to purchase of their merchandise. YES YES YES!

We are going to meet with the SA again on Saturday (tomorrow!) so he can take a look at my stone and other pieces and then we''ll decide on a new stone. I am so excited!

I realize, of course, that we will not get what we paid for my current stone, but by using some of the tools available here it looks like I could get between a .60 and .70 for our money. This is a downgrade in size, but a huge upgrade in quality, so I think I can live with that

Had I not found PS I would have never thought to change the stone or to even consider an ideal cut stone. Thank you so much - even though you are all enablers

Bumping this up for an update......

We went to the jewelers today and picked out my new stone

With the credit I got for my .80/G/SI2 Leo, other pieces and a little bit of my own cold hard cash, DH and I picked out a beautiful, IDEAL CUT, .84/K/SI1!

My setting is due in-store on Tuesday, and the SA said that if it is delivered before the middle of the day it will be set that afternoon and ready for pick-up before closing. I am beyond excited!

I would really like to thank all of the great people here on PS for giving me a great diamond education. Before PS I would have never considered a K stone, but after so much reading and time here I discovered that cut is king and if you''re willing to sacrifice elsewhere you can get a Kicking stone.

I will be posting pics of this beauty as soon as I have it in my hot little hands and have a chance to do a photoshoot. Thank you all again!!

Congratulations on your new setting AND stone! You have to come back with pics! So happy for you!

That''s very exciting. I''m glad you found out that they do trade ins. Charge that camera battery!

Bumping up again for yet another update.......

The jeweler never called on Tuesday about my setting being in so I gave them a call on Wednesday before I left for work. The first lady I talked to couldn''t find any information on it, so I ended up speaking with the owner. The setting didn''t ship until Monday - as in this past Monday of this week

When this was first discussed, the SA told me it would take two weeks for the setting to arrive, and it''s now been a week past that (for 3 weeks total wait time). When I spoke with the owner he assured me that the setting would be in today and that I''d be able to pick up my completed ring. Well, they never called me while I was at work so I had DH call at around 5:15pm today (store was open until 8pm today). He spoke to some woman - I''m pretty sure it was the same woman I spoke to - and she couldn''t find any information about it (yet again)

She told DH that she''d have the SA call back. The store has been closed for an hour now and we never recevied a call back

I am not happy at all. This is a very reputable jeweler in our area and I felt so confident using them.

I really don''t think it''s totally their fault since it''s possible that the vendor for the setting messed up with the shipping - but they at least could have called me to let me know that it was going to take longer than expected.

Needless to say, I''ll be giving them a call sometime tomorrow to see what the heck is going on.

This has really put a damper on my excitement about this project.

I am late to your story. I am very excited about the new ring and diamond and I sure hope they get everything for you soon. How frustrating they won''t call you back and the ring isn''t showing up as promised. Good luck. I will be anxious to see the finished ring.

Third and final bump for an update.....

The ring is finished and on my hand!
