So I''ve been hinting around a little bit about re-setting my engagement ring. DH is on board and we have the setting ordered through a local jeweler that should be in on Tuesday (!). Basically, my setting is not holding up like it should and I''m tired of having it repaired. I''ve had the prongs on the center stone re-tipped two times in the past year and have had the prongs fixed several times on my sidestones and wedding band. Looking closely at my setting it also appears that some of the sidestones on the e-ring are not set quite right. Ugh. I love my setting, but it''s time for us to part.
While we were at the jewler, the SA happily showed us some of their Heartstar diamonds. Wowie. Very pretty indeed. We say thanks, we already got a stone, and leave it at that. We leave the store and a few days later my hubby says that he was impressed by the Heartstar diamonds. Very strange coming from someone who really doesn''t give a hoot, but wants his wifey to have the best.
So, my gears start turning and I start thinking of ways to get my hands on one of these little beauties. I''ve always felt sort of eh about my stone, and DH knows this, so we''re not opposed to trading in the stone. Not knowing if the jewler does this sort of thing, I called them this morning and asked the SA we met with previously. Found out that I can get $ for the stone (and some other pieces I have) to use towards to purchase of their merchandise. YES YES YES!
We are going to meet with the SA again on Saturday (tomorrow!) so he can take a look at my stone and other pieces and then we''ll decide on a new stone. I am so excited!
I realize, of course, that we will not get what we paid for my current stone, but by using some of the tools available here it looks like I could get between a .60 and .70 for our money. This is a downgrade in size, but a huge upgrade in quality, so I think I can live with that
Had I not found PS I would have never thought to change the stone or to even consider an ideal cut stone. Thank you so much - even though you are all enablers
