Hi! I'm looking for an emerald to make into a pendant, most likely with some sort of diamond halo. I've been reading through some of the emerald threads, but still would appreciate lots of advice! This is the one I am thinking about below, F1 treatment.

Thank you!

would appreciate lots of advice!

I think for meaningful (to you) advice -
Which parameter does this stone have that’s most important to meet budget?
What’s negotiable and what’s not?

-
For this stone
the table facet looks wavy/concave.
I don’t think that’s a small consideration, or at least something to not acknowledge.

Thanks for pointing out the table facet!

I feel like dimensions (at least 9/10 mm) with some glow are most important to me, while shape, color, treatment, origin are more flexible depending on price.

I think it is a bit of a hazy mess, tbh. It may "glow" but it looks barely gem-quality.

From the same vendor, this is a much nicer cut and much better clarity but it is yellow-green and only 3.11 and a little overdeep and still slightly more in price. So this tells you how much of a compromise the 4.71 ct one is.

Ah thanks for the detailed comparison, I def see the difference in clarity and cut! It does seem like I might be able to get a better trade off between face up dimensions/price/ quality. Appreciate the insight!

LilAlex,

Would you be so gracious as to give me an opinion on this emerald?

^ Just seeing this. There are better emerald authorities here, I'm sure, but I'll do my best. The videos look much more crystalline than the still image which, at the blown-up scale, did not impress. The videos looks like a lovely hue with a just a hint of blue to the green and a saturation that, while below ideal, is one that many of us love. A little hard to reconcile that video hue with the "yellowish green" in the description; I would typically avoid that and am not accustomed to seeing it in a Colombian emerald.

No way to know the degree of treatment (I like the GIA F1, F2, etc.)

It is shallow but does not seem to suffer too much for that -- maybe a lot of hearts are and I have not reviewed the dimensions very often. You're paying a premium for the shape so it's best if you really want a heart.

Dollars-per-carat, it's not in the upper echelons, which can be good. I don't have a great frame of reference for pricing.

Hopefully others will comment. I'd say take a look, provided there is a good return policy.

LilAlex, Thank you so much for taking the time to comment on the emerald. I will look for another emerald given yours and other feedback I have received.

I started a separate thread after I responded to your post.
