So I just started ring shopping and I've found it is not as quick and painless as I was once hoping. As I am not nearly as financially endowed as most are in this forum I am looking for an Emerald Cut diamond for under 2500.

anywhere from 1.3-1.5 ratio
Preferably over .8 carats.
above H in color
anywhere in the vs1-si2 range - you know needs to look good to the naked eye.

This is the one that I found on USA Certed Diamonds -
http://search.virtcert.com/cgi/u/1012/v.cgi?stock=7159374&_s=1012&_p=sdf348gd743&_c=&_fs=1&prestock=

Does anyone have any experience with them? What else should I be looking for in a diamond?

I would really appreciate it if you diamond hunters around these forums would offer your help.

Thanks!

Virtcert is a listing agent - not the vendor - the vendor is a pricescope vendor https://www.pricescope.com/dealers.asp
who you can find here - USACerted diamonds

They are bonafide but low value adding drop shippers by and large. So if price is your main goal then you should be in good hands.

An EC is something I would not buy sight unseen.

1. I need information like the crown height where a Sarin report comes in handy.
2. Also, I always aim for at least a VG rating in Polish and Symmetry.
3. Need a ASET picture to check for light performance
4. Need an Idealscope picture to check for light leakage
5. Need a magnified picture of the actual stone to evaluate the steps

Without the following information, nobody can tell you if the stone will be pretty or a "blah".

Photographs of the diamond and an ASET are extremely useful as you cannot buy an EC by the numbers, and as Chrono says, it is anyone''s guess how this diamond could look. You could contact USACerted and see if they have any of that info which can help you.

So in all those things that I should request can you give me some sort of numbers as to what I''m looking for, or better yet, does anyone know of a good diamond dealer in the Northern Virginia area?

Thanks for all the previous replies!

Here are some numbers but bear in mind you use them as a guide, don''t dismiss a diamond that a vendor might tell you is a stunner if the numbers fall out of the suggested ranges, there is no substitute for an expert eye.
