Hi! In search of an EC, but in need of help. My engagement ring was a round, so step cuts are foreign to me, though I absolutely adore them!

Carats: 2.5-3+
LW Ratio: 1.4-1.5 (elongated)
VS2+
I+

I've read a bit on tables and depths, but still no expert. Looked into Blue Nile and James Allen inventory - specifically:

Thoughts? Recommendations?

Thanks in advanced!

Run a search on rare carat and start checking the results there. James Allen is not on there but many other vendors are.

I'm not loving the blue nile one. The good news about BN is their return policy, 30 days. So if you had time and the inclination, you could buy it and look at it in person. It has to be back to the company by day 30.

Thanks. The more I read about EC, the more this one raises red flags.... :roll

I love these old cuts at JBG; the first is especially unique. May or may not be your thing and I wish she'd rock the stone along its short axis. If you are open to-preloved and old cuts, maybe some of the EC aficionados can give you their thoughts on these.

Thanks - beautiful, just not my style. Still in search.

There is one on enchanted diamonds that is supreme, but it's 50k. Do you have a budget in mind?

Hello fellow Texan! I'm curious on the budget too.
Also, you might consider having GOG assist you in the hunt.

The next step is to ask for aset's for any that you like. Hint from personal experience - do this before your order the stone ;)2

GOG would be my first step. Jon can source EC's, too...
They are awesome to work with & really attentive to their customers.
Do you have any specific preferences for table %? Depth will matter because you don't want it to be dark.
Your cut should be very symmetrical: VG to Ex (ideals are not easy to find). Placement of your lowest pavilion facet will impact the performance of the stone, and determine if you will lose any light/have dark bands across the center of your diamond.
Some EC lovers like a smaller table, whereas others prefer a longer table for more flash...
Which do you prefer?

Where is @Karl_K, when you need him? lol!!
Regardless of WHERE you find your EC, ASET, IS Reports must be examined, as well as your certificate...
VS1 diamonds still have inclusions, and you must see how they effect your diamond (clarity is super important to consider with step-Cuts, but you can find some amazing lower grade clarity EC's-mine is SI2, and appears to fall in VS-VVS clarity range).

Thanks, everyone!!! Ok, from what I understand - I don't want a diamond too deep and the table should be less than the depth. I'd like something with a good spread, but do not want to lose the step cuts or flash. Will definetly be looking into everyone's recommendations and suggestions!

I can't recommend diamonds or vendors.
I can answer technical questions about an image/video/report

table smaller than depth is not a good formula to apply in all cases and for the most part I don't support it.
For example 64% table 60% depth could be awesome if the angles and placement were good and it had a reasonable crown height. Lacking in those things then its a not a good one even if it has great numbers.

I agree with Karl. While table less than depth can help narrow choices if you are solely searching online witbout assistance and with a limited budget, I have to say that ECs have a great many exceptions to the rule. Both of my beautiful ECs have had tables larger than depth.

With your large budget, I would not exclude out of the norm parameters. Have you seen any ECs in person? Are you in a large enough city to go look at some? Eg Dallas or Austin? Houston would be the best place, but is probably not possible right now due to Harvey. Austin has limited selection, but you may just get a feel for EC performance. I also highly suggest watching some EC GOG videos on youtube to help choose your own preferences.

So I asked for the ASET report on this, but wanted opinions on this one:

I'm drawn to the length to width ratio of 1.6!

Thoughts?

I understand the love of the rectangular l x w ratio; mine is 1.45:1 & it's exactly what I wanted!!! I LOVE rectangular EC's, and they are becoming more & more rare!!
Both have VG Symmetry & Polish, and great clarity. :mrgreen2: They are both viable contenders!
If you love them, and you are focused on l x w ratio the way I am, then I love them, too!! The question is, now: which one?!? :eek2:

Thanks!!! Both links are the same diamond - just waiting on the ASET report.

No wonder I couldn't choose...lol!! :lol-2:
I'm out with DH, shopping, and of course, got distracted...sorry!!! :oops2:
I do love IT, though!! I hope the ASET comes back beautifully!! Fingers crossed!!! :mrgreen2:

How are you planning on setting it?

The 1.6 ratio sounds fab. Looking forward to the aset!

Ok... so I've been waiting for this ASET report and someone buys the diamond. :cry2: :cry2::cry2:
