Happy New Year everyone! Please let me know what do you think of this EC.

I am slightly worried about the black square in the middle, but could it be ok because contrasting is needed to flash? To my untrained eye, there seems to be a ok amount of red/green…?

Also, should I request white background images/video for additional details since everything was taken with black background. Thank you for your assistance in advance.

Carat Weight: 5.55

Lab: GIA
Depth: 64.00
Table: 65.00

Yes, please help! Thanks

Is there a video so we can see the steps in motion?

It looks similar to the Brian Gavin ideal ECs, to my eyes, but the video doesn't work on my phone so that's from the images only.

The blue 'box' will look darker due to obstruction from your head when you are looking at it head-on, but should look brighter to observers further away, if I understand things correctly.

There is a smaller box within that box that looks to have some leakage head-on, but the facets may still flash at other angles (I think??).

It's a decent stone to my eyes - not perfect but they are unicorn-rare in ECs, as I understand it!

Do check out Yoram's antique emerald/asscher cut on his GemConcepts website, though :)

Thank you OoohShiny!

I don't think I could make up my mind about it based on the video since it's very staged with sparkling spot light setting. It was also not set up north south, think JA style video with black background and pretty spot lighting. I do see that "black box" in the middle on the video...

I think it has potential, especially considering there are going to be few perfectly cut emerald cuts in existence over 5 cts. I would have to see it in person to really know. I can't imagine buying an expensive stone without seeing it in person. I've forgotten where you are located. Are you in the US or not?

I am sorry, working for a vendor puts me on a tighter leash and I can not do that.

When you get to the end of what images can tell you, look at video, preferably rotating side to side.

I understand. Thank you for stopping by, Karl!

Did you mean that I should turn it left right on the video? I don't think I could do that on their particular video...unlike those by JA. Or maybe I just don't understand your comment very well...

Thanks DS. Happy New Year!

I am in the US and have about less than 2 days to decide if I want them to ship it to me. I agree that I need to see it in person to decide. Just wanted to get your thoughts before deciding. Non in-house diamond doesn't have such a generous return policy so I wanted to be careful about it.

I am requesting another video with diamond on hand in motion to check how the steps "walk". Here is a picture of the diamond on hand, assuming it was taken under office light setting?

I am encouraged by the last picture. It looks nice! A video just like that picture with the hand moving left to right would be helpful. I think that's what Karl meant.

What are the dimensions? I imagine it has good spread since it isn't very deep.

Really, you like the look? =)2 Just worry that I haven't seen enough and there is no others to compare.

Understood! Really hope to get it tomorrow to share it here!

12.18x8.67X5.55

Nice dimensions!

So far so good! I'd love to see more images on that hand. I feel like I can tell a good EC in person. It's just hard to be 100% sure without more pictures and a video of that hand moving so we can see what the stone looks like as it tilts left and right.

I hear you! Totally agreed.

Off the topic, could you advise where I could buy a gemstone/diamond display ring from a B&M store fast? Online stock is rare even and I haven't had luck finding one that holds bigger stone on eBay.

I'm not sure if @Wink might be able to source the stone-holder rings? I would hope that if you do have it shipped to you they would provide one, especially given the likely price of the stone!

The video is useful but, as you say, the 'glamour' videos are perhaps too unrealistic of performance in real life, which is why I do like the JA videos' 'flatter' lighting. Perhaps @Texas Leaguer might be open to our feedback on this point? :)

WRT the stone itself, the video doesn't seem to show the centre-section facets being very active once the stone gets past about 30degrees from face-on, IMHO. It might just be the lighting environment, but it might also be the cut being optimised to look good and bright from face-on (which it does :) ) at the expense of having active facets at other angles.

Hopefully the on-hand video will be more informative on this last point!

It's a big purchase and I can empathise with your position - it does look good from the face-on images but you don't want to only have it looking good from one angle!

OoohShiny,
Yes, quite open to feedback. Always!
Dauphine,
I know that you have been in close touch with the consultant who you are working with on this project, and I know that she has put in additional imaging requests that are currently being worked on. Because we maintain a professional photography department we are more than happy to use those resources to give you as much visual information as possible to assist your decision-making.
That said, a fancy shape this size is always a bit of a challenge in terms of staging and image capture. There is no substitute for seeing it in person of course.
As a vendor, and particularly as the vendor offering this diamond, I cannot comment on the quality of the stone on the forum for obvious reasons. The light performance images speak for themselves and hopefully we can get the video aspects that will give you the visual information you would like before taking delivery.
We should have that for you soon.

New video and picture with white background. Please let me know what you think. TIA.GIA2175396133-Diamond-W.jpg

Great pictures and videos, @Texas Leaguer, please do accept and pass on the forum's compliments on their skills!

I have to say, though, in the flat office lighting (which is a difficult lighting environment for any diamond) it does look like it has leakage when it's tilted - unless the office is a similar colour to the person's hands?!

I may be wrong, though, so I will let others comment also :)

Yes, I see it too...looks like the same spot.

Well, I’ll say it. It would bother me that the one step is dead at all angles.

Wondering if the leakage is due to the slightly shallow dept or just plain bad P2/P3.

I hate to have people spend time doing something for me, only to then decide I don't want what they've come up with, but if you're spending this sort of money, I do think it needs to be as good as it can get!

Are WF able to source any other stones out there? Could be worth looking through the PS stone search engine to see if anything comes up, but it's probably fair comment that there's not that many at this size... lol

As far as EC ASETs are concerned, this one is good, but certainly not "perfect", though I'm not sure what a perfect EC ASET really looks like. The 1.4 L/W ratio and the amount of "cropping" off the corners on this stone is very attractive to me. I would say it wouldn't hurt to keep looking, but I wouldn't eliminate this stone. Good luck!

Can't view the vid.

I think the stone looks great in the video!!!! I'd definitely send to look at it! I am terribly sorry I did not see that you posted it yesterday!

Oh, and in that new still photo, I am assuming that the dark facet is from obstruction from the camera since the background of the photo is white. So it's not leakage. I am not seeing a problem in the video. What does your sales consultant say? Who are you working with?

The latest one on this page (below the pic with white background).
Actually, make that both vids. Maybe its me...*Gasp!*
