EC 2.75+ K/L VS2/SI1 on $15k budget?

Hi everyone!

I fell in love with MoonRiver's lovely EC: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/2-7ct-emerald-cut-in-temp-solitaire-setting.226105/page-3

Do you think a $15k (stone only) budget could get me in the 2.75+ carat range, K/L color, VS2/eye-clean SI1 (and not too deep a stone)? I'd also want some fluorescence. If so, where are the best places to look? Whiteflash has a 2.7 K VS2 but it's very deep (68.9%) and has no fluoro. James Allen didn't have any promising hits either.

Thanks for any guidance!

I should add that I'd love to go with WF because of their upgrade policy (not having to spend double), but not sure if stones with these kinds of specs show up there all that often.

There was a 2.8 carat pre-loved emerald cut (M color) on loupe troop the other day. It caught my eye, but I'm not sure how M color fits in to what you want.

Thanks Wildcat03. Here's the listing you were referring to: https://loupetroop.com/listings/rings-natural-diamond-center/2-dot-85ct-antique-square-emerald-cut-slash-asscher-ring

In all disclosure this ring happens to be mine so I won't sway you one way or another other than to say that M color is pretty indistinguishable from L *in my opinion* (I am not color sensitive though) and it is very white facing most of the time. I do see slight color inside the car. It has medium fluorescence. It is an antique stone though so I don't know if that's what you are looking for. I also don't have an upgrade policy as I am a private seller and I completely understand the appeal of that policy. I hope you find exactly what you are looking for! Feel free to message me if you have questions :wavey:

That's a beautiful ring, Sunfish! Unfortunately I'm looking for a rectangular shape. I have a round brilliant engagement ring already and want something more elongated next. Hope you find a great home for that beauty!

JBEG has a really lovely K EC right now. I was fondling it this last weekend.

Hmm.... she might have sold it.

It might be worth a call to see what she has.

I know you want an upgrade policy. You can call IDJ to see if they can get any of these, and ask what their upgrade policy would be.
Some options:

Ask for ASET: https://enchanteddiamonds.com/diamonds/view/E250-654328080

Thanks, Gypsy! The ones you linked seem very deep. Is it uncommon to find one as shallow as MoonRiver's (hers is 62.5%)? I was hoping to get one as shallow as possible (while still having a nice cut) to maximum the face-up size.

With emerald/step cuts I generally try to stay at or over 65% depth. You can certainly find them shallower but to my eye the ideal formula is to have the table smaller % than the depth. Otherwise you may end up with a diamond that looks glassy. I'll have a look around as well.

Oh interesting! Thank you so much for your expert advice, I admittedly have very little knowledge of ECs so it's much appreciated!

I've seen several beautiful shallow ECs.

That said, most nicer ones generally are on the deeper side.

Usually with poorly performing shallow stones the crown is very shallow and the table on the larger side, which is what makes these stones often glassy.

So yes, it is unrealistic to expect such a shallow stone.

I have never wanted a spare $15k more than I do right now (and been sadder that I don't have it). That is GORGEOUS. I am sure it won't take long to sell.

Oh yeah. That's a beauty.
