Earring Advice Needed

The 80 lower half in a GIA report could mean that it is actually +/- 2.5% either side. Though from the pics, looks to be more around the 77-78% range.

Hi bmfang/ac117 could you tell me more about this lower half? What is the significance of it? Thank you!

Hi bmfang/ac117 could you tell me more about this lower half? What is the significance of it? Thank you!

Lower halves of 75/76 produce fatter arrows. The closer to 80 or higher than 80, the skinnier the arrows are. Fatter arrows produce greater contrast and bolder flashes while the skinnier arrows will produce more pinpoint sparkle. Nothing wrong with either, just different looks. However, GIA rounds it numbers either to 75 or 80, whereas AGS gives you the exact number. So bmfang is pointing out that while your report says 80 for the lower halves, the arrows don't appear super skinny and are likely 77-78 range but were rounded up to 80. Hope that makes sense!

I see! Thanks! I've liked fatter rather than thinner arrows, so that's very good to know!

I've asked Yekutiel about a few stones, but it seems some of the stones are overseas. Does this mean the overseas stones are harder to access for images and aset images? I'm not familiar with the "calling in" process

If the stones are located overseas, that means they can't access them without having to purchase them. If they're located in NY or if they're being sold by a vendor they have a relationship with across the US then that usually means they could call in the stone. Basically they are borrowing the stone from that vendor to show you.

Right so it's best to look at stones within the US. Thanks for your lightning quick responses, I really appreciate them!! :)

No problem! Yes, it's advantageous to look at stones they can call in but you'll need to accept that it may take more time to find a suitable match. It took me a couple of months of constant searching to find the right pair!

Yekutiel has come through with this stone and the images! What do you think? It is a J SI2 with medium blue fluorescence.

Honestly, neither are a perfect match....not that they wouldn't be nice performers (bc the images show that both stones have very nice light return) but they will have a different performance than your existing stone. We usually recommend staying within +/-1 of the numbers on the stone you have. You have a 6.95-6.98 spread, 57 table, 61 depth, 33.5 CA, 40.8 PA so I would stick to either 56-58 table, 60-62 depth, similar CA/PA numbers and spreads should be overlapping.

Thanks ac117 that makes sense. I will stick to those stats when looking.
