e-ring help: oval split shank double halo!

pretty sure that's just the picture. it was shadowy around 4pm and we were chasing sun rays for photos. i like it so much! i've asked Adam from OWD for some additional shots and we're talking later today about setting stuff and i'm trying to compile details i like!

got some more photos of it!

the midsection really doesnt look like that on on the hand so i was a bit startled by whats showing in these shots

any thoughts?

those thicker facets down the mid section dont bother me. I think thats the nature of the beast. If to your naked eye you like the way they meld together, thats what matters.

I would just make sure you stare good and hard at it and make sure the inclusions dont bother you.

I have a stone with a large inclusion, would be graded I i am sure by gia, maybe even EGL, but she sparkles like no marquise ive seen and it was a good deal for the price, so i regret nothing. I love that little spotted b***

any setting news?

thanks so much for the thoughts, Niel. Confirms what I'm thinking and feeling but also want to do homework etc. I do like the way it melds together and that aside, have confidence it'll be even better looking in the setting.

Re: setting I'm still thinking about a Harry Winston-inspired halo with a split shank. The question is plain split shank or pave. I do love Von3's setting: https://www.pricescope.com/community/threads/photos-of-a-plain-shank-oval-halo.188042/

it's hard because there are so few pictures of plain split shanks! not sure what to share besides that i like the split to be very defined. thoughts?

cant seem to find any split shanks that are plain. it's starting to make me question the whole idea of one!

they are out there. But first, is it a double halo or a single?

i'm not sure which way to go on this! I think i'd rather double? i think the CAD will help but it's just so hard to picture! :errrr:

finally getting organized! wondering if a nearly 2 carat oval is too big for a double halo? putting together some pics for the CAD

Great long conversation with David from diamonds by Lauren we discussed a couple PS at length  --one not so favorite member of his and it was hilarious. he's awesome and gets what i want. He found an oval 1.5 L VS1 he thinks could be perfect-- it's around $6000 he said minimal bow 1.48 ratio. Nice size and cut. it's not at his actual vault but someone else has it so he's trying to get it for us.

Re: setting I was little disappointed and surprised re the lack of flexibility re split shanks but it turns out he think he can do what I'm hoping for. I am slightly saddened its not possible to customize the shanks more. I found this one on the site and he said they could replicate it. Obv making mine an oval. Possible double halo. I like how the shanks are distinctly separate as well as curved a little compared to others on the site that are nearly parallel.

Also concerned about the height of the setting. He said there's little he can do. Does it look high to anyone else? I hate high!

I'm a bit concerned about finger coverage though too. Maybe a double halo can fix that?

That is incredibly unprofessional. :nono:

Regarding the last pictures you posted, I am certain you can find a much nicer oval than that one. That stone's clarity looks pretty bad. I also agree with going with a lower color than K if you really want a stone with some color, but you want the color to be evenly distributed throughout the stone (and a good cut will help that, too). If Adam doesn't come up with what you want, I'd contact Good Old Gold who will also check leakage and light return for you and provide a video of the stones as well. I really don't recommend a double halo as those can appear to look more like a dressy cocktail ring than an engagement ring. I think a single halo is very classy and more wearable daily for most people.

that's extremely helpful, even if it's not what i want to hear. I can't really tell what will end up looking fine when set vs not? i'll keep digging or ask Adam to come up with additional stones.

what if it's a smaller melee -- like 0.65 stones as a double halo? I really like how that looks especially since I want a plain split shank. Hoping the smaller halo is more delicate?

I dont think there is a problem with double halos. Get what you like, not what we like. Its not our ring.

will do, but feedback is helpful. More and more I'm just getting tired of the details and starting to wish I'd just let him pick something out.

Wondering if that other oval in the pictures i posted took might be better? it around 2.06 or something carats instead if I recall correctly, just over vs just under, but perhaps it's a better choice.

Wow, can you let us know where you found that double halo oval picture you just posted? Is that a real ring or a Photoshop mockup?

my search is over! after loads of shopping around and research / discussions, we've landed.

I COULD NOT be happier. Yekuziel & Luanne at IDJ took such incredible care of us.

here's the ring! it's an Henri Daussi double halo setting in platinum w/ a rose gold center halo. the stone is around a carat, and it's a curiously oval shaped cushion cut with crazy light return, a stunning cross cut pattern and I'm just beyond happy!

i love it! it's being sized and that's it. i can't believe a cushion could look so oval and be exactly what i wanted! he gave us an amazing deal and it's such a  moment

will be posting the GIA cert. i'm so intrigued by the stone's cut. it's really unique. would love feedback on whether it's worth plating the rose gold halo to white? Would it look different than the platinum ring? I think I may just leave it as is? He said he could also redo it completely and make it a plain split shank as I initially wanted but I am completely content with it as is and would hate to mess it up.

Thoughts?

So funny that I've gone from fancy yellow to KLM to F but I'm thrilled with it. There's tons of fire and it's much more delicate than it seems in photos!

congrats!

Oh beautiful. Its wonderful when it just works out.

Is it just the reflection of the metal or is the first halo pink diamonds?

Either way I'd leave it. Its so much more unique with the rose gold.

just a reflection of the rose gold! i'm completely obsessed with it and can't wait to get it back from IDJ / to see how he surprises me. ha

also i love how the rose sets the stone off so it doesnt look like all one thing. since it's set low it could have that effect otherwise. which is a drawback if i were to plate it or remake it. I actually love how low it's set. it feels modern and special but more practical.

also i think it was you, Niel, who talked about rose gold? it's really funny how things work out!

Congrats!! It's really pretty.
I love the ring as is, but now is the time to contemplate whether you want it all platinum and with a plain shank.

Congrats!!!!

Yaaaaay! I love IDJ! Congrats :)

Yay!! It's very pretty. The RG add extra visual pleasure. A special extra, yet very classic. And the ring will give you great visual pleasure too! It's a beautiful ring. What a find :appl:

thanks, Acinom! I'm pretty thrilled. it solves the bowtie issue by not being an oval at all! and yet it faces up huge and is so oval-ish! :naughty:

Beautiful ring!!!!! I love it!

:appl: :appl: What a spectacular ring! Absolutely gorgeous, congratulations!! :appl: :appl:
