Hi all,

My engagement ring is a platinum ring with lots of tiny milgrain along the edges. I wore it with a really thin (about 1.5 mm?) eternity band, but over the years, the milgrain wore down. The jeweler suggested that I wear my wedding band and engagement ring separately to prevent the wearing down of the milgrain. (My e-ring is currently away for repairs to make it look like new again)

My problem is this: My wedding band is extremely thin, thin to the point where if I wear it by itself, it has absolutely no presence. So I''ve been doing lots of Pricescope searching and find myself drawn to the sparkly 5-stone rings

Which way should I wear the rings? Engagement ring on the left hand and new wedding band on the right hand, or vice versa? The only problem with putting the engagement ring on my right hand is that it''s a size 3.5 and my right hand is at least a half size larger, so the ring will definitely have to be re-sized (and I''m not sure if it''s possible, it''s a Tacori eternity engagement ring with those "scallops").

Your thoughts please!!!!

I have always worn my eternity ring as a wedding ring on my left hand, and my engagement ring alone on my right hand. Hope that helps. Good luck with your new search!

Thanks for your input, Spirit!

Any more advice?

I''d prefer to wear the E-ring on the left and wedding ring on the right. I don''t think there is a right and wrong way so where it which ever way you like!

Hi, shortee78. Is your er the one in your avatar? if so, it would be lovely to wear it alone. it is so blingy. there are many gals who wear their er and wr seperately (including me sometimes) and if you get a 5-stone and wear it on your right hand it adds extra bling. and sometimes wearing your er alone makes it more ''visible''. let me tell you, when I went to my jeweler last week to check some new stones for an upgrade, he showed me one with the same carat weight as I have now to compare. He hadn''t noticed I was wearing my er bec. of the crowd (er+eternity+5-stone all together) or maybe it''s bec. my stone is small. anyway, you get the idea. as for which and where, I prefer to wear my er on my left hand but have seen many doing it otherwise and I think it''s lovely either way. Just, sometimes people think you are engaged but not married if you wear it on your right hand.

I agree - only because I find that people automatically look to your left hand to see if you are ''engaged'' etc. I don''t know - I don''t think it reallllly matters but I''m wearing mine on two hands, and keeping my ering on the left.

You could do either though - but two hands is definitely okay!

I am with wrstacks, I too wear my e-ring with my w-band. I guess the only scenario I can say is that, look at Katie Holmes, when she married Tom Cruise, she now wears her e-ring on her right hand and has her wedding band on her left hand, so I say to each his or her own. Good luck and wear them which ever way makes you Happy.

krisvrn - Yay, another PS''er who wears her rings separately :) Thanks for your input!

chirp - Yes, my e-ring is the one in my avatar. It actually does look lovely by itself, and when I first got married, my husband and I decided NOT get the matching wedding band (since it was also out of our price range) and to wear the e-ring as the wedding ring also. However, I when I used to wear it by itself after being married, people assumed I was simple engaged, and not married. Grrr~! So that''s what motivated me to go out and get a really thin wedding band, as proof that I was married. In fact, I just got the thinnest band just so it wouldn''t really show up that much, LOL. Do you have pictures of your 5-stone ring? I am now in the research stage ^_^

October2008bride - Thanks for your input! Seems like many PS''er wear their rings separately, and put the wedding band on the right. So does that count as a "right hand ring" then? Just wondering~!

wrstacks - Once I get my e-ring back from repairs, I''ll post a pic of the e-ring and wedding band together. The wedding band isn''t that noticeable, but because the e-ring has a sharp knife edge with milgrain along the edge that touches the wedding band, the friction wore away at the milgrain. The part of the wedding band that touches the e-ring is just metal, no diamonds at all, so I think having any metal constantly touching the e-ring will wear away at the milgrain.

If I only knew about this problem back when I was choosing an e-ring setting, I would have picked a simple solitaire....

Buffy01 - Thanks for your input! Didn''t know that about Katie Holmes!

Here is an image of the e-ring, from the Overstock site (I''m kinda sad my e-ring setting is now discounted, wahhh. Makes me feel less special). But in the picture, you can see how the "scallops" on the side of the shank and the bottom-most edge has milgrain on it.

I''m now off thinking of my jewelry acquiring and upgrade plan :) *rubbing hands together*

Step 1: Get new stud diamond earrings from WF (on it''s way!!!) for our 4th year wedding anniversary and "push" present for first child. Weasel husband into letting me get the matching earring jackets ("Honey, for only $495 more, I can double the usage of these earrings!")
Step 2: Get new wedding band (maybe a 5 stone or 7 stone) to wear by itself on other hand for our 5th year anniversary
Step 3: Get tennis bracelet for "push" present of second child (hey, I''m a planner by nature)
Step 4: Get upgraded center diamond & setting for 10th year anniversary

Hey shortee, love your e-ring, and especially love your 4 step "program", put a smile on my face. I am going on 17 years the end of this month, and have already achieved 2 of those steps, the 2 children, and the upgrade, but not the other two, so I will be rooting for you on the 4 steps.
