Hi Everyone,

I am planning on proposing to my girlfriend soon, and I have picked out the Legato Sleek Line setting in platinum for her engagement ring. With this in mind, I am looking for a stone from Whiteflash to complete the ring.

My budget for a diamond is 3k (Come on, I'm 23!), and any money saved here will help pay for a wedding ring. I have been looking at Round Brilliant ACAs from G-I color, VS1-SI1 clarity, and .6-.7ct,

I've pulled out a few here: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/compare.aspx?idnos=3061818,3059448,3059452,3045706,2936492,3045702

I don't think I want to compromise on cut quality too much, but other than that, I am open to any suggestions! I am new to diamond shopping, and while I think I can pick out decent qualities, I am coming to pricescope for help on finding the best stone I can for the money. I saw cheaper diamonds available from Blue Nile and other sources, but I think it will be easiest to stick with Whiteflash for having the setting done in-house. It's also hard to go wrong for cut quality by buying ACA.

I hope we can come to a consensus :) thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks for the ideas Gypsy. My girlfriend and I planned to get engaged together, and since she doesn't have any other rings, I asked for her input on the setting for her engagement ring. I wanted to be sure I got something she liked, and she picked out the Legato. She really likes the basket with the triangles around the diamond and the way the band tapers. She has smaller hands and also wants something relatively thin. That stone from JA definitely seems like a good deal, but I'm hoping to either find a diamond on WF or a very similar setting elsewhere. I will browse through more settings from JA when I get home from work.

A rep at WF suggested these: http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/compare.aspx?idnos=3019470,2970576,3034537,3059448
I had been shooting for a higher carat weight initially. However, my budget mindedness won out, and I focused on the .65 from these selections. I don't think I mentioned this above, but I am also looking for an eye clean stone. I am leaning towards quality over size when it seems like the spread difference between a .65 and a .70 is pretty small.

you should reserve the stone at WF before someone else gets it.

Thanks Willy, good call! I've emailed the WF rep asking to reserve the stone for the time being. I also need to pick a platinum alloy. I was thinking about requesting 90/10 Iridium instead of their 95/5 Iridium. Do you guys find the price premium is worth specifying the alloy? The only other alloy I have been considering is 95/5 Ruthenium.

I requested WF to make my ring with ruthenium (a legato sleek line, but with pave) from the good things I've heard of the alloy. It'll still eventually develop patina from everyday wear like the other alloys, but I'm all for minimizing it as much as I can, especially since it only cost an extra $75.

Just keep in mind that if you change the alloy it's considered a semi-custom order, so you won't be able to return it if your FI doesn't like it. But from what you said your FI liked about it, the setting sounds like a winner. It's incredibly delicate/dainty looking in person (in a good way)

Excellent, 75 isn't bad at all, and your ring looks lovely. What wedding band did you go with? That seems to be the next decision on the radar.

I think your choice is very nice.

Thanks Gypsy. I decided it would be easier just to stick with WF since my FI loves the setting. I'm excited to have it all picked out :D

I didn't realize she had picked out the setting. I thought you just liked it yourself.

You ABSOLUTELY made the right choice getting that setting!
