OK here's Y2000: the adapter from my old camera is at work, the new camera I have not opened yet, but luckily, I have the Droid which does not take the most accurate photos but I'd say they are still of decent quality.

Gemcal's 5-ct spinel which he called "Victorian" (I always imagined this lady in mourning). I'd call the color "dusty rose". This color is new to me, I never had a stone like this, and I am not even getting into modifiers or saturation because I just like the color. Resembles me of last year's purses for autumn.

Of the previous set, nr 2 was the most accurate...

And I was pretty pleased to see inclusions... More pictures tomorrow. With a different camera. Thanks for viewing.

I'd like to set it in an antique way but in prongs. Also, much as I prefer YG, I think this stone will look better in WG. Opinions, advices and recommendations for jewelers are welcomed. I do not want to super-invest in setting but do not want a cheap one, either.

Thank you, pregcurious! As I have mentioned, I'd like to set it in WG, antiqued style, no diamonds, prongs. OK, maybe some melee...

Beautiful purplish-pink color! I think Daniel M would do a good job of setting it. It brings to mind a ring Athenaworth had made by him a while ago with a pink tourmaline...

Oh, I LOVE it...and I agree, not sure how "Victorian" would describe that!?

I've been looking at gemcal's stuff...do they have a reasonable return policy? I thought it said shipping was free when u buy it, but if u return it, is it going all the way back to Thailand?

Bright Ice - thank you!

Jstarfireb - thank you! I see the similarity in the stones, and Daniel M did a great job with prongs! I am not sure if I want small prongs or something different. Someone here recently showed an aqua ring to die for. I believe it was a thread about an aqua she purchased from gem-cove. I liked that setting. I just do not remember who the poster was... I was thinking about that type of a setting.., But If I am not mistaken, Daniel M. also makes single claw prongs?

TL - thank you! I have to get back to my work, my fluorescent lamp is there. It is a very weak lamp so the only stones that fluoresce under it are the ones that have strong fluorescence.

Kt- I do not know. I doubt that return to Thailand is free, could Gemcal have a partner here?

Ha ha I love Gemcal's descriptions. I just bought two pairs from him "walnut colored spinel". I don't think it's walnut colored, it's more orangy pink. I love your spinel though! It looks huge too. What do you think of this setting? Too fussy?

Treenbean, I do not know, the ring looks expensive and beautiful. Who is it from?

Does someone remember the aqua post I am talking about? TL, do you remember who she was?

Well, walnuts may have different color in Thailand, after all. It is hotter there... But a Victorian lady is Victorian lady everywhere.
Here is how I think it looks like...

Close to summer pink on my monitor, I'd say but I am positive I shall find a better matching color...

Now let us see if admin. deletes this post. I think you can find a matching color for any stone in their catalogue.

The ring is Fay Cullen. I like the cartier 1922 setting as well. True about walnut species, I'm used to the English ones.

What a lovely spinel! I agree, I think it would look amazing in white gold. I vaguely remember the post you are referencing, but I couldn't find it. I'll look forward to seeing more photos of this little Victorian lady!

Ah! I found that thread... (All I remembered about the poster was that she had an easy screen name, was very friendly and had great stones).

I love the setting although it requires baguette diamonds (or could it be done without diamonds?).

But the setting is great! I do not know if technically it could be called "antique" but it is very nice.

Oooh, I remember that aqua...love both the stone and the art deco-inspired setting.

Daniel M could definitely do single claw prongs. They won't be as refined as some of the claws we see here (e.g. Leon), but I think he does a pretty good job for a really low price.

Aoife - thank you!

Gemcal has some nice gems!!! This color is GORGEOUS! It will look beautiful in this setting and can stand alone as a solitaire! Actually, it would be stunning with or without side stones! Looking forward to see how you set it! W  W!!!!

JStar - I am definitely thinking of a similar setting. Thank you.

ZestfullyBling - thank you. Yes, they do have nice stones. I'd say his website accurately enough represents colors.

Here are more photos. I call this stone Victoria's Secret because I think that colors of their lingerie match this stone better than lilac and black of Victorian epoque.

It is great! What sort of setting will that stone find for its home?

Oh, thank you, Coolkitty! Here is the setting that I admire...

Delighted to hear that your spinel is natural. I am going to certify mine just because I would usually certify a stone above $ 700.00 especially if I plan to put it in an expensive setting, but it has some inclusions and I feel it is not synthetic...

Both the color and cut of the stone look really nice! Any progress on settings yet? :naughty:

Do you still have Gemcal's pictures and descriptions of the stone? How accurate do you find them to be?

Love the stone, Arkteia! Your last pictures made me murmur to myself! The cut is so nice, too.

A setting like the aqua ring would look terrific, spare & simple. Just to throw a wrench into it, I really really like the rose gold prongs on Athena's Daniel M. ring -- for me, yg or rg would be great w/your spinel. Luckily for you, you get to make the decision!
