Hi everyone! I thought I''d ask for some "found kitty" dust from you all. I know this is a great community of animal (especially cat!) lovers.

I''m going to try to make a long story short, so if I start to ramble, I apologize. A little over a week ago, (Saturday, Sept 5th) my fiance and I moved one of our cats, Poncho, to my grandma''s house a few hours away. We have two male cats, Pablo and Poncho. Well, a while ago, Poncho started marking things in our house... mostly a rug in the kitchen and and laundry baskets. We just bought a new house and we weren''t thrilled with the idea of this cat peeing all over our new investment.

Well, we decided that he would enjoy living with my grandmother. She doesn''t have any pets and she''s home all day, so it seemed like a good match for Poncho (who is one of those cats who HAS to be on your lap if you''re sitting down). Well, we moved Ponch down there and he hated it. I knew he''d be nervous, but she said he basically just hid in a closet and hissed at her whenever she came near. Basically, they weren''t getting along as I''d hoped.

Well, apparently she had a plumber at her house and he left the door open for awhile and Poncho ran out. I called my grandma on Saturday to check on how the cat was. My fiance and I figured that if they still weren''t getting along, we''d come pick him up and take him to the new house and pray he didn''t mark every surface. Well on Saturday, my grandma admitted that he''d escaped.... 3 days before that! I was so angry no one told me. I guess she was hoping he''d come back.

So now he''s been gone for 5 days. I''ve put an ad in my grandma''s local paper. She thinks he just didn''t like her and is gone for good. She thinks he''s probably going to try to come back to where we live. Well, I sure hope he doesn''t try to do that BECAUSE WE''VE NOW MOVED! He wouldn''t know where our new house is (I don''t even think cats do that, do they? I always hear of dogs that get lost and travel for days, but not cats).

So I''m devastated. I feel so guilty that he''s outside alone. He doesn''t have front claws (please don''t flame me about that, he was already declawed when I got him) and he''s never been out for this long. He''s used to be an indoor/outdoor cat and he''s an excellent hunter, so at least I know he might be okay finding food.

I know how well PS dust works and I''m basically just praying it works for me now. I start to cry every time I think about it. I never should have moved him. I feel just horrible.

He won''t know where your new house is, but he might be trying to get back to your old house. Please go talk to people in your old neighborhood and post flyers there.

(When I was a kid, my cat did that. I''m not sure how far it was, probably 1-2 mile, but she found her way back to our old house.)

Good luck!

I''m so sorry he''s missing

Sending ***dust*** for his safe return!

Dear gods, that''s awful. Under similar circumstances, I can only imagine that I would feel very bad on top of very scared - if I''m presuming, ignore this. You did the best thing possible for him in trying to find him a place where he could be happy (just to state the obvious), and it is awful and unforseen that he would get out. I''m wishing and hoping that he turns up soon, and that you''re okay in the meantime.

Oh, no! I'm so sorry to hear about this TG...

I hope he's OK...

I think VRBeauty gave you really good advice about talking to your old neighbors and posting flyers in your old neighborhood...also don't forget sites like Pets911, and even Craigslist...local vets offices, too...sometimes when people find a pet and they don't know what to do that's the first place they look.

Please keep us updated, I'm going to be thinking of him...

ETA: I forgot the dust...please come home safe, Poncho! **dust** **dust**

Aw, lots of dust to find Poncho safe and sound! Cats are pretty darn smart, so I agree about checking w/your old neighborhood and putting up flyers and asking at the vets too. Does he have a collar w/his name and address on it?

Thank you so much for the dust I''ve already received. Really, I hope it helps!

He was wearing a breakaway collar with his name and my grandmother''s phone number on it. He''s pretty shy with strangers so I can''t see him wandering to someone else''s house nearby. My grandma lives in a pretty small town (about 4200 people), so I definitely think someone would call if he''d been found with his collar. Thank goodness the weather is mild right now. If I don''t hear anything by the time it starts getting really cold I don''t know what I''ll do.

Dust you way TG! I hope your kitty finds his way home

or you get a call soon

when house cats get out they don''t go far, especially if they are frightened. go to your grandma''s and search everywhere near the house, in the bushes, under the deck or porch. never stop searching and quietly call his name. we have found two cats this way. i learned this from a story on NPR about a blood hound that finds lost pets.
good luck!! remember look very close to the house.

Yes, this is really good advice too!

It''s likely he will be scared and won''t go far...

I hope you find your cat soon, sending dust.

Oh no, tons of kitty dust heading your way!

Lots of good advice already ... MUCHO DUST!!! We found my kitty in a neighbor''s garage one time. She crept in there to take shelter from a storm & got caught inside when the homeowner closed it. Having grandma''s neighbors & your old neighbors keep an eye out sounds like it has potential ...

GOOD LUCK!

Lots of dust. I''ve been through this and I know how sick with worry you are. Have you been to your grandmother''s to search? It''s important that it''s you and as stated above you call his name softly. He''s probably very frightened. How far is it between your old house and your grandmother''s house?

There actually are petfinders-who specialize in lost animals. Generally you can find them online. Keep us updated. Are you in Michigan? If so I''ll come and help. My husband calls me the cat whisperer.

Any local animal shelters? I''d send them a photo and discription of the missing cat incase some one hands it in. I also agree with contacting your old neighbours and your grandmothers neighbours so they can keep a look out for him.

*DUST*

Dust for Poncho.

Big ditto to spending time out there calling him. I would use a bed sheet or something that smells of you (bathrobe etc) and trail it around the area leading always to your Granny's home. Hopefully he will find the scent an stroll in the front door. Make sure she leaves food on the front and back door steps. It might feed the neighbourhood cats but hopefully Poncho will get a bite too.

God bless him and send him home safely.

oh no! ***DUST***DUST***DUST***

VRBeauty:
he might be trying to get back to your old house

Cats often do that when they''ve moved into a new home.

Sending lots of dust - I hope you find him soon.

I''m so sorry

Lots of *dust* for Poncho''s safe return!

I lost a kitty when I was a little girl and was completely crushed by it. He was an indoor/outdoor cat and one day he was just gone. Three months later I heard meowing outside and opened the door and he ran in! He was thin as a rail and his collar was missing... we thought the neighbors had taken and dumped him somewhere maybe... so it does happen... but more than likely if he''s a lap cat he''s going to find THE lap to sit in. He will either try to find you or fall in love with someone else along the way. You may never know what happens to him, but I would always hold out hope that he found the perfect lap to spend the rest of his life in if he doesn''t find his way back to yours.

That said, you have all my dust.

Oh man I would be crushed if I lost a kitty. I can''t even imagine how you feel.

*****DUST***** for the kitty to come home quickly and safely!

**DUST, DUST, DUST!**

Cats are interesting creatures. One time I thought my cat ran away, and he turned out to be laying on the inside flap of my recliner chair... INSIDE the chair. I hope wherever your baby is, he is safe... and gets home to you quickly...
