Don''t know what to do...

My apologies to Lorelei. Yes, in going back to her posts, she too preferred the RB, then PoH.

More bad news. It''s very difficult to get a top notch square cushion. The wait could take several weeks to several months. I think I''m going to wait for it. I think...but I''m not 100% sure. I might decide to get a smaller cushion to wait out until the larger cushion or Jube gets in.

Would you pick a rectangular cushion? He has one right now in stock and it''s a killer stone.

1.19 ct H VS2 6.65 x 5.81

Or would you stick with the squarish cushion?

1.02 ct F SI1 6.11 x 5.73

Believe it or not, the 1.19 ct is $500 less than the 1.02 ct stone. I didn''t think that going up in colour would cost that much.

What now? Should I bother Jon and have him do a vid of both cushions? He already has both in separate videos, so I feel like I''m asking for too much work on his behalf.

Sera and Lauren,
I guess I was just surprised by how lovely the chunky faceting is on the cushion. I don''t need my square stone to be H&A but the facet pattern must be symmetrical, which the cushion is. I love the ginormous facets of old cut stones so I was very happy to see it in the cushion, which is why it swayed my decision from the PoH.

If you''re going to get a Jube later on, I would go with a more rectangular so it''s a bit different. And if you can''t make a decision between the two, you might be able to in a video with them side by side- maybe you could compare 1 or 2 more you might be interested with it.

I would prefer the more square stone myself...

As for the vids, I''d try to determine from the existing ones. I''d just keep watching them.

Your spinels are square? I''d go with the rectangular cushion. It doesn''t sound like you''ll ever be happy with the mm/$ of the POH and personally I''d much rather see cushion sidestones with a cushion center than with a round, particularly a modern H&A round. I think the more rectangular cushion would be lovely, giving you square-rectangle-square rather than square-square-square.

What are the proportions/mm in the spinels?

Does GOG have a trade it in case your jube one day magically appears?

Cushions are gorgeous; I would LOVE one for a RHR! If that''s what you love, go for it!

OOOOHHHH! Cushion center with cushion red sidestones

I wanna see! I wanna see!

ETA: when a Jube comes in, would you put it in the setting with the red spinels and reset the cushion? or leave the setting and get something else for the Jube?

Okay I just came home from work and hopped on to PS to catch up. Here I am all ready to join in the Chrono viewing party... and the darn videos are in Windows Media. And my computer is a Mac.

I''m going to go fire up the husband''s PC... be right back. LOL!!!!

Chrono... that cushion is absolutely stunning. And with red cushion spinel sides? We will definitely be planning another GTG so I can see that baby in person. LOL!!!!

See if Jon is willing to do a side-by-side of the two cushions. Something tells me that you will get that "must.....have........that.......one....." feeling when you compare. I think that with your spinels, either the rectangular or the square would be stunning.

Lorelei,
Is that a long haired bunny in your avatar?

To all,
I've officially dropped the PoH. Just can't justify the cost. I'm going to ask Jon to find me a square cushion of about 1.25 ct with the same killer optics. H SI1 if possible. Then it'll be between the RB and the cushion. I'm surprised that the cushion has such nich chunky faceting and pretty decent light return. I know everyone is probably wondering if I'm crazy to not to be jumping all over that RB (which really a stunner) but I have this hangup that I want a square stone.
38.gif
So now I'll have more diamond shapes: RB, EC, OEC and maybe a cushion to the mix?
11.gif
Hee - I think so!!

Your plan sounds good, that way you know you have considered all appealing options properly! I loved the Round, but the PoH was a close second. I just loved it's personality and the fire, also it looked comparable in size to the RB to my eyes, but I think you are doing the right thing in exploring all the options and looking for another Cushion to make sure of what would make you happiest! I would ask Jon if he would mind making a vid of the 2 Cushions, I bet he would want to do what it takes to help you make the right choice!

Sera,
The Jubilee production is still tied up. It may take months or even years before they are back for sale. Even Jon doesn''t know when so I''ve decided to give up on them for now. When they do come back, I''ll probably trade up again for a Jube. This is why I love GOG''s 100% lifetime trade up policy. I''m not really crazy about rectangular stones unless it is an EC. I don''t know why but my mind associates cushions as perfect square stones, which makes no sense whatsoever as cushions can be rectangular. Silly me.
3.gif
When and if the Jubes do finally come in, I''ll put it in the same setting as the red spinels, trading in the cushion. If it doesn''t fit, then I''ll get something else for the Jube and fill the existing setting with a coloured gemstone.

Mercoledi,
My spinels are squarish. They are 5.1 x 5.3 mm. I plan to set them the long way east west. So, even if I get a square cushion, with the sidestones set "sideways", it''ll have a slightly different appearance. I agree that cushion sidestones go much better with a cushion center than a round (even if it is in an illusion setting) due to the faceting pattern.

Joolskie,
You are really funny. Can''t help you with the Mac (but they are great machines). If I decide to wait for a square H SI1, it may be a while before it can be found, so that GTG may not happen until towards the middle of the year.

I''d be more than happy to show off that new RHR when it''s completed. I''m loathe to bother Jon to make a side by side video of the 2 cushions since he''s already made 2 vids starring the 2 cushions separately, plus I''m itching towards getting a square one, so I don''t want to waste anymore of his time and effort.

Lorelei and Ellen,
I''m glad I had the night to mull over things. It''s so easy to get caught up in the excitement and want a stone that is in stock. I too was surprised how the PoH was comparable in size to the RB. I couldn''t tell that the RB was larger by 0.5 mm.
Originally, I threw the cushion in just for kicks never intending to get it, but now it''s my top contender.
26.gif
How strange that once I saw it, I knew that that''s the shape for me. I guess I''ve always heard that fancies don''t sparkle as well, has lots of white/leakage in the Idealscope, yada yada yada, and I''m drawn to it the most after viewing the video. As Storm says, great RBs will always be in stock at GOG but not the cushion or other fancies. How patient would you both be for the perfect stone? Several months? A year?

I think I would give it till late Spring/ Summer as a reasonable time frame for the right diamond to come along, I think personally that would be a decent amount of time to wait, so my vote is for several months. Looks like it is beginning to fall into place with a Cushion!

Well, gee Chrono, I''m the gal who held on to a .30 for 24 years... I may not be one to ask this.

I''d ditto Lorelei.

Oh thank God you cleared that up about your avatar! I was wondering if it was a bunny butt! I couldn''t see that it was a nose!

My request for a square cushion has been noted by GOG. The wait begins anew.

Hi Chrono, Just wanted to chime in to say that cushion is gorgeous! Oh, and I completely agree that there is nothing more perfect than a square chunky cushion. I was ogling diamonds yesterday at a very $$$ jewelry store in Newport Beach, CA and had to laugh out loud when the SA informed me in no uncertain terms that cushions DO NOT come in a square ratio - rectangles only. Whatever. By then my eyes had spied the Daniel K cushion Uternity bands in the case and

I WILL have one, as God is my witness! (When I happen upon an extra $21,000 for the 3.73 ctw. band.)
