Can anyone tell me if the solitaire rings on this USAA site are competitively priced? Company overall has an excellent reputation. Not sure how they are with diamonds though. I do not really want to waste a lot of time bargain hunting for a rock bottom price, but on the other hand do not want to pay jacked up prices. Mostly interested in the 1 carat J, SI2 for 4,499.00. Thanks in advance for any feedback.

We don't know whether it is typical of their inventory, but the last USAA sourced diamond that we evaluated on behalf of a client who had received it as an insurance replacement looked an awful lot like a re-cut to us, the proportions and faceting pattern / alignment left a lot to be desired... Tell tale signs that the stone had likely been re-cut.

Can't say about the diamond you posted. I tried the link and got a Log In page.

For the same money, you could purchase a Super Ideal Hearts and Arrows diamond. Here's a couple H&A comps for you.

A 1.01, J, VS1, cash priced at $4507. VS1 brings a much higher price than SI2.

A 1.093, J, SI1, Price Scope priced at $4457. SI1 still brings a higher price than SI2.

There are also several, 1.01 to 1.02, J, SI1, AGS0 Cut diamonds currently available thru various Price Scope Vendors ranging in price from $2324 to $3875.

Hope this information helps.

I'm not sure how true this is but when my fiance and I were dealing with Fred Cuellar to find the perfcet stone, his assistant--I believe his name is Rick--boasted that Fred recommends/buys diamonds for USAA. At the time, I felt relieved since I was such a huge proponet of Fred. But now I know better, I wonder how well the stones that USAA sell are cut. It worries me since my e-ring is insured with USAA.
