Ok, I posted in one of my other threads (superstitious) about a friend who''s stone cracked. I found out today how it happened ... apparently she took it to a jeweler to get sized or something and when she got it back, the diamond was apparently very busted up. She said that they later found out that the ring was treated with chemicals and then put in the "oven" (???) and that that was what caused the diamond to crack. She got it replaced, but from the way she was talking, the old diamond was pretty damaged.
My question is --- does this really sound possible? I mean I know diamonds are not invincible, but this sounds so WEIRD. Especially because they took it to a jewelry store where the people are "supposed" to know what they''re doing ... wouldn''t they know that treating with certain chemicals and then putting in heat would cause a diamond to crack?
What are the odds that the diamond maybe wasn''t even a diamond in the first place, but a CZ? I just can''t wrap my head around this. What chemical would cause that much damage to a diamond, after being exposed to heat?
Expert advice of any sort would be appreciated!! Thanks.
