Hi all!

I am in process of selecting a princess cut diamond for my wife... we are unsure of which color to go.
my wife is of the opinion that colors interact with each other and help either enhance or offset a colors presence.

we wanted to know if and how this applies to jewellery settings...
will going in for gold enhance/complement the yellowness of an I color or will it appear whiter in a silver/platinum setting.

my wife is not stuck up on the metal but wants to use a combination that will add more value to a diamond..

I would love to hear any theories anyone has to this effect.

Thanks!!!!!

Hi Zombie,

It really depends on the color of the diamond. Colorless diamonds (DEF) may appear more yellow in 18k yg, and whiter in Platinum, where as slightly yellow diamonds may appear whiter when contrasted in 18k yellow gold, and yellower in platinum.
Fancy yellow diamonds are often set in 18k yg to enhance their color.

I diamonds are a tough call. I diamonds that are well cut will show less body color face-up than I diamonds that are poorly cut.

Have the jeweler rest your I diamond in a yg setting and a wg/plat setting and see which one looks like a harmonious combination to your eyes.

Hi Hope Dream,

Thanks for the reply!
unfortunately the H stone I posted has been taken :wall: so whiteflash suggested this stone which i have now reserved -http://www.whiteflash.com/loose-diamonds/princess-cut-loose-diamond-3208947.htm#

the WF expert says that the ACA stonēs cut will mask some of the yellowness..but i was still hesitant as it is I color..
i was planning for an open setting in platinum.

i would love to know your opinion both on the stone and the metal.

i will ask the expert to see which metal makes it look whiter.

Thanks,

The WF stone is really nice! They do have a fine return policy if the stone's color doesn't work for you, but an excellent cut does make a big difference.

I own a small I colored stone and I only notice that it's creamy vanilla when I put it directly next to my F. On it's own, my I stone looks very white. Is are generally a safe color-wise for most people.

Here's another option in about the same price range http://www.briangavindiamonds.com/d...active-104074556009#!prettyPhoto[gallery2]/1/ Just in case.

WF should be able to send you pictures of the stone resting on a yg or wg setting so you can see the difference.

Best of luck!

Depends on the tint and undertone of the stone in question in a white facing I it shouldn't matter.

Thanks all !!!

@ HopeDream - i have already been in contact with BGD for the diamond you posted... initially it was a choice between BGD 2.001 I VS2 and WF 1.815 H VS2.. where WF was cheaper by 3k. unfortunately, someone already bought the WF while I was waiting for some response on PS... lesson learnt-reserve ur stone !!!!

Then WF suggested the 2.005 I vvs2 .. price being almost same but two grades higher in clarity...

At the end of the I would like to buy a better performing stone... i am not sure if i can differentiate between a vs2 and a vvs2!!!

hence i rely on fellow PSers...

Thanks !!!!
