I was thinking of using my forever empty Legacyesque LOGR for my 3.5 carat spessartite. I thought it fit well in there East/West vs North/South. You can see air pockets N/S that you cannot see E/W. It also has a cut that reminds me a great deal of the patented Tiff cut. You really can''t see the air pockets that well, even though this picture is blown up.

I have to have my jeweler add prongs of course.

I don''t think it looks stupid at all! Do you have any profile shots!

Love the stone!

I think it would look great. I love the spessartite.

It looks stunning! Go for it, girl!

could just be the pic but it doesn''t look very symmetrical..setting is nice

I love it....let''s see it on your finger TL!

I think it looks beautiful! The setting and color of the stone are lovely

If your jeweler can make it work (there are some overlaps in the bezel area), I think it looks great. I really like the second picture.

It looks nice to me...can you go a little bit closer...or crop the picture to get a virtuall macro?
I have seen just like it somewhere in big shops I cant remember a couple years back. But the centre piece was an emerald.

Hi TL, It is a beautiful setting and a beautiful stone and the setting should find a right stone and the stone should find a right setting. Don''t put them together, let the legacy wait for the right stone and find the gorgeous stone a right setting.

I agree amguy. It would probably bother me too much.

Yup

I think it''s still lovely.

Here''s one for you - the extra space will allow more light for your spess and make it brighter !

I won''t find the right stone for this setting ever. I''m convinced of it. The problem is that I like medium to medium light toned stones, and with white gold, they tend to get washed out if they''re not more vivid in saturation. A vivid stone in that size would cost a fortune, so I will never find a stone for this setting.

It''s sitting in there a little crooked, that''s why. I''m sure my jeweler would make it sit correctly.

Where is that spectacular stone from, btw?

Thanks for everyone who left responses, or kind words, and opinions. I will take it to the jeweler today.

Oh, listen, TL. I didn''t mean it "needed" to be made brighter. You know that, right? It''s an awesome stone. I was just giving you a way to look at it.

I think you are absolutely going the right way.

yea..if the jeweler can set it straight I think it would look just fine

I don''t think it looks stupid at all-I quite like it!

Oooops late to the party! You''ve got my vote on this one also. I love the colour combo and the white gold and diamonds really bring out the vibrancy of the Spess. Can your jeweller set the stone lower so there''s less air space? If not, could he add a tiny bit of white gold to the inside of the bezel? That way the air space should be hidden, even in profile.

I can''t wait to see the finished result!

TL - Isn''t that an 8 mm setting? I just noticed yesterday that Richard Homer has some gems on clearance, including this aqua for $290. Wondering if that might fit your setting better?

RH writes: "Nice caribbean color....as you can see, you don''t have to put it on a white background to pick up color! Ideal concave brilliance that does not overpower the pastel shade...a very nice gemstone."

You are generally an uncompromising sort of lady. I''m thinking that the spess is a bit of a compromise.

I love the look, great stone color and great setting! does NOT look stupid at all.

Since you already took it to your jeweler, I won''t say what I think, but I''m looking forward to seeing what he does with it!

Be 100% sure the gaps aren''t going to bother you. You will see the ring and scrutinize it all the time so think over it carefully. Other than that, the orange pops very well against the white metal and diamonds.

I think that it looks beautiful, I love the setting. I think you should go for it!

The setting has the right proportions for the stone. I think if the jeweler can make it look symmetrical, and the gaps don''t bother you, it will look good.

Hi FlyGirl,
Thank you so much for the suggestion, lovely cut stone, but that is too light in color and not vivid enough in saturation for me. I actually have a very well cut vallejo aqua of similar color and it would fit the setting perfectly, but I decided the setting was too nice for the stone.

The setting is off at the jewelers, with my cuprian oval (the one to be set in the r/w gold double halo), and I'll be getting them next Friday or Saturday. Since I've had this setting for many many months without finding a stone, after looking and looking everywhere, it is a compromise, but I love how the orange pops against the white and the diamonds. I really want to be able to enjoy that spessartite and it's beautiful color on my hand once and for all.

You're right about being uncompromising, but I'm more so when it comes to color and buying gems. I'm a bit more "loose" when it comes to settings.

Thanks LD,
Actually from arm's length, you can't really notice the air space. It's not that obvious. The thing that's really obvious is the color, which really pops against the white gold and diamonds. I'm looking forward to the finished result as well. My jeweler is very good at what he does, so I'm confident it will be nice.
